Executive Summary
Wilshire Law Firm enters September 2026 as the clear second-place brand in AI-generated recommendations for personal injury lawyers, and the only top-tier firm whose position strengthened across the three-month series. The benchmark shows valid recommendation coverage of 23.7%, up from 17.6% in July 2026, a gain of 6.1 points that falls within normal month-to-month variation for the brand but places it firmly ahead of third-place Jacoby & Meyers at 17.5%.
The firm's raw mention presence rose from 19.7% in July 2026 to 28.8% in September 2026, a 9.1-point increase. That presence translated efficiently into recommendations: Wilshire Law Firm captured 65 valid recommendations in September 2026, up from 34 in July, and its top-three rate improved from 12.4% to 18.6%. Rank-one placements climbed from 3.1% to 6.6%. The firm's average recommended rank of 2.33 is the strongest in the category, tied with Lerner & Rowe and ahead of Morgan & Morgan's 2.74.
The strongest platform signal for Wilshire Law Firm is Google AI Mode, where the firm holds a 34.74% top-three rate and a 45.26% valid recommendation coverage rate across 95 qualified observations. Google AI Overviews is the second-strongest surface, with a 19.35% top-three rate and 20.97% coverage. Copilot produced a perfect rank-one record for the firm: all three of its valid recommendations on that surface placed first.
The clearest gap is first-position placement relative to the category leader. Morgan & Morgan still holds a rank-one rate of 13.5% against Wilshire Law Firm's 6.6%, even after the leader's own rank-one rate fell 22.8 points from July 2026. The firm is consistently shortlisted but less often chosen first. Perplexity produced zero mentions for Wilshire Law Firm in September 2026, and the firm has no qualified presence in the pricing and value or multi-brand comparison clusters, which remain empty across the public benchmark.
Net sentiment for Wilshire Law Firm is 0.962, the highest among all tracked brands with meaningful presence, reflecting 76 positive mentions against 3 neutral and zero negative. The firm is not being framed cautiously or negatively anywhere in the dataset. Its constraint is placement, not perception.
What Wilshire Law Firm Is Winning
Questions This Section Answers
- Why does Wilshire Law Firm hold the strongest average recommended rank in the personal injury category?
- What does the firm's Google AI Mode performance show about its recommendation strength?
- How does Wilshire Law Firm's sentiment compare to other tracked firms?
Wilshire Law Firm holds the strongest average recommended rank in the category at 2.33, tied with Lerner & Rowe and ahead of every other tracked brand. When the firm is recommended, it lands near the top of the list.
The firm's Google AI Mode performance is the single strongest platform result in the dataset. Across 95 qualified observations on that surface, Wilshire Law Firm achieved a 34.74% top-three rate and 45.26% valid recommendation coverage, with 48 present mentions and zero negative framing. This is the highest top-three rate any brand recorded on any platform in September 2026.
Copilot produced a narrow but perfect result: three valid recommendations, all at rank one, for a 100% rank-one rate on that surface. The sample is small, but the signal is clean.
Wilshire Law Firm recorded zero negative mentions across all 274 qualified observations. Its net sentiment score of 0.962 is the highest in the category among brands with more than ten mentions, and its 76 positive mentions represent a 27.74% positive visibility rate, second only to Morgan & Morgan.
The firm's two-month upward streak in valid recommendation coverage, from 17.6% in July to 23.5% in August to 23.7% in September, places it as the consistent second choice in AI recommendations while the leader's share contracts.
Where Wilshire Law Firm Has the Clearest AI Visibility Gaps
Questions This Section Answers
- Why is rank-one placement the most consequential gap for Wilshire Law Firm?
- What does the Perplexity blind spot mean for the firm's AI visibility?
- What remains unmeasurable because of the empty pricing and multi-brand comparison clusters?
The most consequential gap is rank-one placement. Wilshire Law Firm holds a 6.6% rank-one rate against Morgan & Morgan's 13.5%, meaning the firm is roughly half as likely to be named first even though it appears in top-three lists at nearly the same rate (18.6% versus 21.5%). The firm is in the room but not always at the head of the table.
Perplexity is a complete blind spot. Across 21 qualified observations on that surface, Wilshire Law Firm recorded zero mentions, zero recommendations, and zero presence. Morgan & Morgan, by contrast, appeared in 20 of 21 Perplexity observations with a 95.24% presence rate. This is a platform where the leader is nearly omnipresent and the strongest challenger is entirely absent.
The pricing and value cluster and the multi-brand comparison cluster produced zero qualified observations across the entire benchmark in September 2026. Wilshire Law Firm cannot be measured in head-to-head comparison or fee-related prompts because the public benchmark does not yet contain qualified data in those classes. If buyers are asking AI systems to compare firms directly or explain fee structures, the current benchmark cannot show who wins those answers.
The gap to the leader remains 8.8 points in valid recommendation coverage, down from 32.7 points in July 2026. The field has compressed sharply, but Morgan & Morgan still holds the top position in every measured dimension except average recommended rank and net sentiment.
Biggest Opportunity
Questions This Section Answers
- How can Wilshire Law Firm convert its top-three presence on Google AI Mode and Google AI Overviews into first-position recommendations?
The clearest path from reference to recommendation for Wilshire Law Firm is converting its strong top-three presence into first-position placement on Google AI Mode and Google AI Overviews, the two surfaces where the firm already performs best. Wilshire Law Firm holds a 34.74% top-three rate on Google AI Mode but only a 9.47% rank-one rate on that surface. On Google AI Overviews, the firm holds a 19.35% top-three rate and an 8.06% rank-one rate. Closing even part of that gap on the surfaces where the firm is already strongest would move it from consistent shortlist presence to first-choice recommendation without requiring new platform coverage.
Competitive Landscape
Questions This Section Answers
- How does Wilshire Law Firm compare to Morgan & Morgan and the rest of the field across top-three rate, rank-one rate, average rank, and sentiment?
- Where does Wilshire Law Firm lead the category despite ranking second to Morgan & Morgan?
Morgan & Morgan holds the strongest recommendation-stage position in the category, but Wilshire Law Firm has closed the gap to 8.8 points and now sits clearly ahead of the rest of the field. Jacoby & Meyers is the only other brand with double-digit top-three presence.
Brand | Top-3 rate | Rank-1 rate | Avg recommended rank | Sentiment |
|---|---|---|---|---|
Morgan & Morgan | 21.53% | 13.50% | 2.74 | 0.8187 |
Wilshire Law Firm | 18.61% | 6.57% | 2.33 | 0.9620 |
Jacoby & Meyers | 12.77% | 5.11% | 3.02 | 0.8929 |

Lerner & Rowe | 3.65% | 1.46% | 2.00 | 0.8571 |
1.09% | 0.36% | 3.40 | 0.6250 | |
0.73% | 0.36% | 3.78 | 0.8333 | |
0.73% | 0.00% | 4.00 | 0.6667 | |

Goldwater Law Firm | 0.36% | 0.36% | 1.00 | 1.0000 |
Average recommended rank covers rank-eligible recommendations only.
Wilshire Law Firm ranks second by top-three rate and second by rank-one rate, but first by average recommended rank and first by sentiment among brands with meaningful presence. The table shows a firm that is consistently shortlisted near the top of the list, with the strongest framing quality in the category, but less often named first than the leader.

Questions This Section Answers
- What is the first step to convert Wilshire Law Firm's shortlist presence into rank-one recommendations?
- How does the plan address the Perplexity gap and unmeasured comparison clusters?
Phase 1: AI Market Discovery Audit Map every high-intent prompt where Wilshire Law Firm appears in top-three lists but not at rank one, and identify which competitors are capturing the first-position recommendation on Google AI Mode and Google AI Overviews.
Phase 2: Recommendation Readiness Plan Prioritize the specific prompt types and surfaces where the firm is shortlisted but not chosen first, with a focus on converting top-three presence into rank-one placement.
Phase 3: Owned Answer Layer Buildout Strengthen the firm's owned pages and structured content around the practice areas and question types where AI systems already surface Wilshire Law Firm, so the firm's own evidence layer supports first-position selection.
Phase 4: Citation / Authority Layer Development Build the public source footprint that AI systems retrieve and synthesize from, with emphasis on the surfaces where the firm is absent, particularly Perplexity, and the comparison and pricing question types the benchmark cannot yet measure.
Phase 5: Monthly AI Visibility and Recommendation Tracking Track rank-one rate, top-three rate, and coverage by platform month over month to confirm whether placement gains hold and whether the Perplexity gap closes.
Why This Matters
AI presence alone is not enough. Wilshire Law Firm appears in 28.8% of qualified AI answers and is recommended in 23.7%, but it is named first in only 6.6%. A buyer who asks an AI assistant for a personal injury lawyer and receives a ranked list will see Wilshire Law Firm near the top, but not always at the top. The difference between second and first on that list is the difference between being one of several options and being the default answer.
The next move is targeted correction of the prompt, page, and citation layers on the surfaces where the firm already performs best. Wilshire Law Firm does not need to build presence from zero. It needs to convert existing shortlist presence into first-position recommendation on Google AI Mode and Google AI Overviews, and to establish any presence at all on Perplexity, where the leader is nearly omnipresent and the firm is currently invisible.

Sentiment Score
Questions This Section Answers
- Why is classified sentiment necessary before interpreting Wilshire Law Firm's AI visibility?
- What does the firm's 0.9620 sentiment score reflect about how AI systems frame it?
Sentiment Score = (positive mentions × 1 + neutral mentions × 0 + negative mentions × -1) / total mentions
Wilshire Law Firm's sentiment score is 0.9620, calculated from 76 positive mentions, 3 neutral mentions, and zero negative mentions across 79 total mentions.
This matters because unclassified mention counts are misleading. A firm that appears in 79 AI answers but is framed cautiously, listed as a comparison anchor, or mentioned only in passing is not in the same position as a firm that is positively recommended in 76 of those answers. Share of voice is a diagnostic metric, not a business KPI. A positive recommendation, a neutral reference, a cautionary mention, and a competitor-displaced mention are not equal. Counting all mentions as wins is bad measurement. Classified sentiment is required before interpreting AI visibility, and Wilshire Law Firm's classified sentiment is the strongest in the category among brands with meaningful presence.

Methodology
Questions This Section Answers
- How was the September 2026 personal injury benchmark measured and qualified?
- What are the limitations of the benchmark for interpreting Wilshire Law Firm's position?
- This report is a benchmark-based analysis of AI-generated recommendations in the Personal Injury Lawyers category, produced from the September 2026 LLM Authority Index AI Market Discovery dataset. It is not a client implementation result.
- The reporting window is September 2026, with trend comparisons to July 2026 and August 2026 where the benchmark provides them.
- Six AI/search surface families were tracked: ChatGPT, Copilot, Gemini, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews, and Google AI Mode. All six produced at least one qualified observation in September 2026.
- The September 2026 collection began with 652 source prompt-surface observations and 492 unique questions. Of those, 453 were relevant and 199 were irrelevant, producing 274 qualified observations that serve as the public denominator for all brand-level percentages.
- Ten brands were tracked: Morgan & Morgan, Wilshire Law Firm, Jacoby & Meyers, The Barnes Firm, Lerner & Rowe, Dolman Law Group, Sokolove Law, Zinda Law Group, Pintas & Mullins, and Goldwater Law Firm.
- Three public high-intent clusters were defined: C01, Best Product Liability Lawyers, Discovery and Evaluation; C02, Product Liability Lawyer Comparisons, Firm versus Firm Evaluation; and C03, Product Liability Lawyer Fees and Costs, Decision Stage. All 274 qualified observations fell into C01. C02 and C03 produced zero qualified observations in the public series.
- Stage 0 extraction retained the query, AI/search surface, answer, brand outcome, recommendation placement, sentiment, and, where exposed, citations or attributable evidence sources. Source presence is evidence about the information environment and is not automatically proof that the source caused the recommendation.
- A mention is counted when a tracked brand appears in an AI answer in any form, whether recommended, listed, or mentioned neutrally. Raw mention presence rate is the share of qualified observations where the brand appears in any form.
- A valid recommendation is counted when a brand appears in a genuine recommendation context rather than a general mention. Negative, neutral, cautionary, comparison-anchor, and listed-only mentions are not counted as valid recommendations unless the dataset explicitly marks them as such.
- Top-three rate is the share of qualified observations where the brand appears among the first three recommended options. Rank-one rate is the share where the brand is the first and primary recommendation. Average recommended rank covers rank-eligible recommendations only.
- Net sentiment is the balance of positive versus negative brand mentions in AI answers. It reflects framing quality, not customer sentiment.
- Limitations: the public benchmark does not measure market share, client intake, attributable conversions, every possible AI response across all model versions, organic-search ranking performance, social media mention volume, private or sponsored AI distribution channels, or causality from a metric movement alone. The benchmark identifies where attention is warranted; a company-level analysis is needed to explain why.
