Key Takeaways

  • Zety has strong AI mention presence, but those mentions rarely turn into valid recommendations.
  • Copilot is the weakest platform for Zety, with highly negative framing and low recommendation coverage.
  • Perplexity shows the strongest positive recommendation signal for Zety among the tracked platforms.
  • Conflicting public claims about Zety’s free tier and download limits appear to be driving negative sentiment and inconsistent AI answers.

Answer Capsule

Zety is visible in AI-generated resume builder recommendations but is not being chosen at the rate its presence would suggest. The October 2026 LLM Authority Index benchmark shows Zety with a 50.91% raw mention presence rate but only 18.33% valid recommendation coverage, a gap of more than 32 percentage points. Zety recorded the largest coverage decline of any tracked brand, falling 8.8 points from 27.1% in July 2026 to 18.3% in October 2026. Its net sentiment score turned negative at -0.0744, and it carries the highest negative visibility rate in the category at 22.42%. The clearest opportunity is converting existing mentions into valid recommendations by correcting the pricing and free-tier narrative that AI platforms are surfacing inconsistently.

Executive Summary

Zety holds meaningful presence in AI-generated resume builder recommendations but converts that presence into valid recommendations at a low rate. The October 2026 LLM Authority Index benchmark shows Zety with a raw mention presence rate of 50.91%, meaning it appears in roughly half of all qualified observations. Its valid recommendation coverage, however, stands at 18.33%, meaning it is actually recommended or shortlisted in fewer than one in five qualified observations. That gap of more than 32 percentage points between presence and recommendation is the defining feature of Zety's position in this category.

The benchmark recorded 336 total mentions for Zety across 660 qualified observations, comprising 123 positive mentions, 65 neutral mentions, and 148 negative mentions. The negative mention count exceeds the positive count, producing a net sentiment score of -0.0744. Zety's negative visibility rate of 22.42% is the highest among all ten tracked brands, and its positive visibility rate of 18.64% is well below the category leaders.

Zety's strongest cluster is the Brand Recommendation cluster, which is the only cluster with sufficient data in the current public series. Within this cluster, Zety holds a top-three recommendation rate of 9.24% and a rank-one rate of 1.06%. Its average recommended rank of 3.2642 places it behind Canva, Kickresume, Resume.io, and Enhancv when it does receive rank credit.

The weakest signal for Zety is its recommendation conversion relative to presence. Zety appears in AI responses at a higher rate than Enhancv (33.94% presence) and Novoresume (31.52% presence), yet both of those brands convert their presence into valid recommendations at higher rates, with Enhancv at 27.58% coverage and Novoresume at 19.24% coverage. Zety's presence is not translating into recommendation credit.

The strongest platform signal for Zety is Perplexity, where it holds a 41.67% valid recommendation coverage rate and a net sentiment score of 0.8864. The weakest platform signal is Copilot, where Zety has a net sentiment score of -0.7229 and a negative visibility rate of 82.56%, indicating that Copilot responses about Zety are overwhelmingly negative in framing.

The clearest platform gap is the contrast between Perplexity and Copilot. On Perplexity, Zety is recommended positively and frequently. On Copilot, Zety is mentioned almost universally but framed negatively in the vast majority of those mentions. This inconsistency across platforms suggests that the public evidence layer AI systems draw from contains conflicting narratives about Zety's pricing and free-tier availability.

What Zety Is Winning

Questions This Section Answers

  • Where does Zety convert presence into recommendations most effectively?
  • Which platforms show positive recommendation coverage for Zety despite its category-wide conversion problem?

Zety's clearest win is its presence on Perplexity. The benchmark shows Zety with a 41.67% valid recommendation coverage rate on Perplexity, a 22.92% top-three rate, and a net sentiment score of 0.8864. On this platform, Zety is being recommended positively and at a rate that exceeds its category-wide average. Perplexity responses appear to draw from sources that present Zety favorably.

Zety also maintains a meaningful raw mention presence rate of 50.91%, which is higher than Enhancv, Novoresume, Resume Genius, MyPerfectResume, VisualCV, and LiveCareer. AI systems know Zety exists and bring it into the conversation at a rate that places it in the upper half of the tracked brand set by presence.

Zety holds a 9.24% top-three recommendation rate and a 1.06% rank-one rate. While these are not category-leading figures, they indicate that Zety does receive recommendation credit in a meaningful subset of observations. The brand is not absent from recommendation shortlists; it is under-represented relative to its presence.

Zety's Gemini performance also shows a positive signal. On Gemini, Zety holds a 23.53% valid recommendation coverage rate and a 15.29% top-three rate. While its net sentiment on Gemini is negative at -0.2338, the recommendation coverage rate is higher than its category-wide average, suggesting that Gemini responses are more likely to include Zety in recommendation shortlists than responses on other platforms.

Where Zety Has the Clearest AI Visibility Gaps

Questions This Section Answers

  • How large is the gap between Zety's AI mentions and its actual recommendations?
  • Which platforms show the weakest sentiment and recommendation coverage for Zety?

Zety's most significant gap is the disconnect between presence and recommendation. The brand appears in 50.91% of qualified observations but is only recommended in 18.33% of them. This means that in roughly two-thirds of the observations where Zety is mentioned, it is not being recommended. Competitors like Canva and Kickresume convert their presence into recommendations at much higher rates. Canva appears in 72.88% of observations and is recommended in 66.52% of them, a conversion ratio of over 90%. Kickresume appears in 60.61% of observations and is recommended in 54.85% of them, a conversion ratio of roughly 90%. Zety's conversion ratio is approximately 36%.

The second gap is sentiment. Zety's net sentiment score of -0.0744 is negative, and its negative visibility rate of 22.42% is the highest in the category. This means that when Zety is mentioned, it is more likely to be framed negatively than positively. The benchmark data shows 148 negative mentions against 123 positive mentions. This negative framing is concentrated on Copilot, where Zety's negative visibility rate reaches 82.56%.

The third gap is platform inconsistency. Zety performs well on Perplexity and Gemini but poorly on Copilot. On Copilot, Zety has a valid recommendation coverage rate of 11.63% and a net sentiment score of -0.7229. The brand is mentioned in 96.51% of Copilot observations but is recommended in only 11.63% of them, and the vast majority of those mentions are negative. This platform-specific weakness suggests that Copilot is drawing from a different set of sources than Perplexity or Gemini, and those sources are presenting Zety in a less favorable light.

The fourth gap is rank-one performance. Zety's rank-one rate of 1.06% is among the lowest in the category, ahead of only MyPerfectResume (0.15%), LiveCareer (0.00%), and VisualCV (0.45%). When Zety is recommended, it is rarely the first recommendation. This limits its visibility at the decision moment when a buyer is most likely to act on a single recommendation.

Biggest Opportunity

Questions This Section Answers

  • What is the primary narrative problem causing Zety's recommendation conversion gap?
  • Where does the conflicting free-tier information about Zety originate across AI platforms?

Zety's biggest opportunity is correcting the pricing and free-tier narrative that AI platforms are surfacing inconsistently. The benchmark detected six critical or high-severity factual inconsistencies about Zety, all related to whether its free tier genuinely allows a download without payment. These inconsistencies appear across Copilot, Gemini, AI Mode, and Perplexity. Some platforms present Zety as a free option, while others state that its final PDF download requires payment. This conflicting information is likely contributing to Zety's negative sentiment on Copilot and its low recommendation conversion rate across platforms.

If Zety can establish a consistent, authoritative public evidence layer about its pricing and free-tier terms, AI systems may be more likely to present the brand consistently and positively. This would address the root cause of the negative framing on Copilot and potentially improve recommendation conversion across all platforms. The opportunity is not to change the product but to correct the public record that AI systems are synthesizing from.

Competitive Landscape

Questions This Section Answers

  • How does Zety's recommendation rate compare to other resume builders like Canva and Kickresume?
  • Which competitors convert their AI mentions into recommendations more effectively than Zety?

Canva and Kickresume hold the strongest recommendation-stage positions in the resume builder category, with Canva leading on top-three rate and Kickresume holding the second-highest top-three rate. Zety sits in the middle of the tracked set, with recommendation rates that place it behind Resume.io and Enhancv despite having higher raw mention presence than either brand.

Zety's position in the table reflects its core challenge: it has higher raw mention presence than Enhancv and Novoresume but lower top-three and rank-one rates. The brand is being mentioned but not placed in recommendation shortlists at a rate that matches its visibility. Its negative sentiment score is the second-lowest in the category, ahead of only MyPerfectResume.

AI Response Inconsistency Alerts

Questions This Section Answers

  • What specific factual conflicts about Zety appear across different AI platforms?
  • Why does Copilot present Zety negatively while Perplexity presents it favorably?

The benchmark detected six critical or high-severity factual inconsistencies for Zety across four AI platforms: Copilot, Gemini, AI Mode, and Perplexity. All six conflicts relate to Zety's free-tier availability and whether its final PDF download requires payment. These inconsistencies indicate that AI systems are synthesizing conflicting information about Zety's pricing from different sources in the public evidence layer.

The first conflict involves a high-severity inconsistency about free download availability. When asked "Where to create a CV for free?", AI Mode listed Zety as a free CV builder option with no mention of a paid download requirement, citing Canva and other sources. Gemini, responding to the same question, stated that Zety typically requires a paid subscription to download the final high-resolution PDF. A flagged source on the Gemini side, referencing a resume builder comparison page, noted that Zety offers no full builder and templates but that the only free download is a TXT file.

The second conflict involves a high-severity inconsistency about free availability and paywall. When asked "What is the free AI tool for resume?", Perplexity listed Zety AI Resume Builder as a free AI resume tool option, citing Canva, Wonsulting, and Teal HQ as sources. Copilot, responding to the same question, stated that Zety advertises "free" but requires payment to download your resume, citing resume builder comparison pages that describe Zety as offering TXT-only free downloads with a trial that converts to a paid subscription.

The third conflict involves a high-severity inconsistency about free export availability. When asked "How can I edit my resume for free?", Gemini stated that Zety offers free text export. Copilot, responding to the same question, stated that Zety hides paywalls at the download stage and charges after a trial, citing multiple resume builder comparison pages that describe Zety as a freemium trap.

The fourth conflict involves a high-severity inconsistency about free download availability. When asked "How to get a resume now for free?", Gemini stated that Zety requires payment to download your resume. Perplexity, responding to the same question, stated that Zety offers free creation and a free TXT or PDF/DOCX download with a basic account, citing Resume.com, Resume.io, and Resume-Now as sources.

The fifth conflict involves a high-severity inconsistency about free download availability. When asked "Is there an AI that writes resumes for free?", Copilot stated that Zety blocks downloads behind a monthly subscription and described it as a freemium trap, citing multiple comparison pages. Perplexity, responding to the same question, stated that Zety is free to create and allows free TXT download, with premium required for PDFs and Word documents, citing Canva, Resume-Now, and Teal HQ as sources.

The sixth conflict involves a high-severity inconsistency about free download availability. When asked "Which resume AI is free?", Copilot stated that Zety is not truly free, that it charges a trial that auto-renews, and that it locks downloads behind a paywall, citing comparison pages. Perplexity, responding to the same question, stated that Zety is free to create and download TXT, citing Zapier, Canva, and Resume-Now as sources.

These six conflicts share a common pattern: Copilot consistently presents Zety as a paywalled tool with limited free functionality, while Perplexity and Gemini present Zety as offering some form of free access. The conflicting claims appear to stem from different source types. Copilot is citing third-party comparison pages that emphasize paywall concerns, while Perplexity and Gemini are citing brand-owned pages and general resume builder directories. This source-type split suggests that Zety's owned properties may be presenting a more favorable view of its free tier than third-party comparison pages, and AI systems are synthesizing from both.

Prompt Evidence

Copilot / Brand Recommendation Prompt: "Which resume AI is free?" Result: Copilot stated that Zety is not truly free, charges a trial that auto-renews, and locks downloads behind a paywall, citing third-party comparison pages. This response contributed to Zety's negative sentiment on Copilot.

Perplexity / Brand Recommendation Prompt: "Which resume AI is free?" Result: Perplexity stated that Zety is free to create and download TXT, with premium required for PDFs and Word documents, citing Zapier, Canva, and Resume-Now. This response contributed to Zety's positive sentiment on Perplexity.

Gemini / Brand Recommendation Prompt: "Where to create a CV for free?" Result: Gemini stated that Zety typically requires a paid subscription to download the final high-resolution PDF, citing a source that noted Zety offers no full builder and templates but that the only free download is a TXT file.

AI Mode / Brand Recommendation Prompt: "Where to create a CV for free?" Result: AI Mode listed Zety as a free CV builder option with no mention of a paid download requirement, citing Canva and other sources. This response presented Zety favorably but conflicted with Gemini's response to the same question.

What CiteWorks Studio Would Do Next

Phase 1: AI Visibility Market Discovery Audit Map Zety's prompt-level visibility across all six AI platforms, identifying which prompts trigger negative framing and which sources AI systems are citing when they present Zety unfavorably.

Phase 2: Recommendation Readiness Plan Prioritize the pricing and free-tier narrative as the primary correction target, since six of six detected inconsistencies relate to this topic and it is driving negative sentiment on Copilot.

Phase 3: Owned Answer Layer Buildout Develop clear, consistent, and citable content on Zety's own properties that accurately describes its free-tier terms, download options, and pricing structure, designed to be retrieved and synthesized by AI systems.

Phase 4: Citation / Authority Layer Development Engage with third-party comparison pages and directory listings that AI systems are citing, ensuring that the public evidence layer presents a consistent and accurate view of Zety's offering.

Phase 5: Monthly AI Visibility and Recommendation Tracking Monitor Zety's recommendation coverage, sentiment, and platform-level performance month over month to measure whether the pricing narrative correction is improving recommendation conversion and reducing negative framing.

Why This Matters

AI presence alone is not enough. Zety appears in half of all qualified AI observations about resume builders, but it is only recommended in fewer than one in five. The brand is visible but under-recommended, and its negative sentiment score indicates that when it is mentioned, the framing is more likely to be cautionary than positive. This pattern limits Zety's ability to convert AI-led discovery into buyer shortlist inclusion.

The next move is targeted correction of the prompt, page, and citation layers. The six detected inconsistencies about Zety's free-tier availability show that AI systems are synthesizing conflicting information from different sources. Correcting this requires a coordinated effort across owned content, third-party citations, and ongoing monitoring. The goal is not to manipulate AI answers but to ensure that the public evidence layer presents a consistent and accurate view of what Zety offers.

Sentiment Score

Sentiment Score = (positive mentions × 1 + neutral mentions × 0 + negative mentions × -1) / total mentions

For Zety, the calculation is: (123 × 1 + 65 × 0 + 148 × -1) / 336 = (123 - 148) / 336 = -25 / 336 = -0.0744.

This score matters because unclassified mention counts are misleading. A brand with 336 mentions might appear to have strong visibility, but if 148 of those mentions are negative and only 123 are positive, the brand is being framed more negatively than positively. Share of voice is a diagnostic metric, not a business KPI. A positive recommendation, a neutral reference, a cautionary mention, and a competitor-displaced mention are not equal. Counting all mentions as wins is bad measurement. Classified sentiment is required before interpreting AI visibility.

Zety's negative sentiment score indicates that AI systems are more likely to frame the brand negatively than positively when they mention it. This is consistent with the six detected inconsistencies about its free-tier availability, which suggest that AI systems are synthesizing cautionary or negative information about Zety's pricing from third-party sources.

Methodology

  1. This report is a benchmark-based analysis of Zety's AI visibility and recommendation performance in the Resume Builders category for October 2026. It is not a client result and does not imply that CiteWorks Studio caused any benchmark outcome.
  2. The reporting window is October 2026, with comparisons to the July 2026 baseline where available.
  3. Six AI platforms were tracked: ChatGPT, Copilot, Gemini, Perplexity, AI Overviews, and AI Mode.
  4. The benchmark analyzed 660 qualified observations in October 2026, drawn from an initial collection of 800 prompt-surface observations covering 516 unique questions.
  5. The competitor universe includes ten tracked brands: Zety, Canva, Enhancv, Kickresume, LiveCareer, MyPerfectResume, Novoresume, Resume Genius, Resume.io, and VisualCV.
  6. One public high-intent cluster had sufficient data for brand-level analysis: the Brand Recommendation cluster (C01). The Pricing and Value cluster (C02) and Multi-Brand Comparison cluster (C03) had no qualified observations in the current public series.
  7. Stage 0 extraction retained the query, AI surface, answer, brand outcome, recommendation placement, sentiment, and, where exposed, citations or attributable evidence sources.
  8. A mention is defined as any appearance of Zety in an AI response, regardless of framing or recommendation status.
  9. A valid recommendation is defined as an appearance of Zety in a recommendation shortlist, as marked by the benchmark's qualification process. Negative, neutral, cautionary, comparison-anchor, and listed-only mentions are not counted as valid recommendations unless the dataset explicitly marks them as such.
  10. The qualified denominator for all brand-level percentages is 660 observations. Brand-level percentages use the qualified observations as the public denominator, not the raw collection.
  11. Average recommended rank covers rank-eligible recommendations only. Zety's average recommended rank of 3.2642 is based on 121 valid recommendations with rank credit.
  12. Limitations: The benchmark does not measure market share, attributable sales or revenue, organic-search ranking, or social mention volume. It does not capture every possible AI response. A metric movement alone does not establish causality. The public series does not yet contain qualified observations in the Pricing and Value or Multi-Brand Comparison clusters, so Zety's performance on pricing and comparison prompts cannot be scored by brand in this report.

See How AI Is Recommending Your Brand

The public benchmark shows where Zety is visible and where it is being recommended. A company-level AI visibility audit maps the prompt, platform, competitor, ranking, sentiment, and evidence-source patterns behind those numbers into a prioritized strategy. It shows which prompts Zety wins, which it loses, which competitors take the recommendation when Zety is displaced, and which sources are shaping the narrative. For a brand with Zety's presence-to-recommendation gap, that prompt-level detail is the difference between being mentioned and being chosen.

Understanding AI search visibility.

AI search experiences create answers by pulling information from many places online and summarizing it into a single response.

What Is AI Citation Intelligence?
AI citation intelligence is the process of measuring where AI platforms source their information and how frequently a brand is mentioned or referenced in AI-generated responses. Because LLMs synthesize across multiple sources, the sites and brands that appear repeatedly tend to influence how a topic or company is framed. This practice focuses on identifying which sources shape AI outputs and tracking brand visibility across different AI systems.
What Is Citation Architecture?
Citation architecture describes the set of sources that consistently inform how AI systems talk about a brand, product, or topic. LLMs draw from websites, articles, forums, and public discussion, and the sources they rely on most often become the backbone of their answers. Building strong citation architecture means ensuring that accurate, credible, high authority sources are the ones most likely to shape the way AI tools summarize and recommend a brand.
What Is Generative Engine Optimization?
Generative engine optimization (GEO) is the practice of improving the chances that AI systems use and cite your brand or content when generating answers. While traditional SEO is centered on ranking pages in search results, GEO focuses on how LLMs retrieve, interpret, and combine information when responding to a question. The objective is to strengthen the content and sources AI systems rely on, so your brand is treated as a trusted reference in AI responses.
What Is AI Share of Voice?
AI share of voice tracks how often a brand appears in AI-generated answers compared with competitors in the same category. It reflects visibility across AI platforms such as ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, and Perplexity. Monitoring AI share of voice helps organizations see whether AI systems consistently include and recommend their brand for key queries or whether competitor brands are showing up more often.
