Mark HuntleyBy Mark HuntleyFounder and CEO
12 minutes read

Key Takeaways

  • J.G. Wentworth leads the structured settlements category on presence, valid recommendation coverage, top-three rate, and rank-one rate in the September 2026 benchmark.
  • Its strongest advantage is first-position placement, with a 15.98% rank-one rate versus DRB Capital's 3.55%, despite declines from July 2026.
  • Google AI Overviews and Google AI Mode deliver the strongest recommendation performance, while ChatGPT and Copilot show weaker conversion from mentions to recommendations.
  • The main risk is a widening gap between raw mentions and recommendation placement, as competitors gain recommendation credit and J.G. Wentworth's coverage lead narrows.

Answer Capsule

J.G. Wentworth remains the most visible and most recommended structured settlement brand in the September 2026 LLM Authority Index benchmark, holding the category lead on presence, valid recommendation coverage, top-three placement, and rank-one placement. The company is present in 84.02% of qualified AI answers and earns valid recommendation coverage of 35.50%, but both figures declined from July 2026, with coverage down 13.10 points and top-three rate down 23.60 points. The clearest win is first-position strength: J.G. Wentworth holds a 15.98% rank-one rate against DRB Capital's 3.55%. The clearest weakness is that recommendation credit is spreading to other brands even while J.G. Wentworth stays dominant in raw mentions. The clearest opportunity is to defend and rebuild top-three placement inside the brand recommendation cluster, where the entire qualified benchmark currently sits.

Executive Summary

J.G. Wentworth holds the strongest position in the structured settlements category across every substantive AI recommendation metric in the September 2026 benchmark. The brand appears in 84.02% of qualified AI answers, earns valid recommendation coverage of 35.50%, and holds a rank-one rate of 15.98%. No other tracked brand comes close on first-position strength.

The story inside those numbers is a widening gap between presence and placement. J.G. Wentworth's raw mention presence rate fell from 91.00% in July 2026 to 84.02% in September 2026, a decline of 7.00 points. Its valid recommendation coverage fell from 48.60% to 35.50%, a decline of 13.10 points. Its top-three rate fell from 44.30% to 20.71%, a decline of 23.60 points. Its rank-one rate fell from 32.10% to 15.98%.

The brand still leads the category by a wide margin. DRB Capital, the second-place brand, holds 24.85% valid recommendation coverage and a 3.55% rank-one rate. The gap between J.G. Wentworth and DRB Capital on coverage narrowed to 10.60 points in September 2026 from 22.20 points in July 2026. The gap on rank-one remains large: J.G. Wentworth holds 15.98% against DRB Capital's 3.55%.

The strongest platform signal for J.G. Wentworth is Google AI Overviews, where the brand holds 45.71% valid recommendation coverage, an 18.57% top-three rate, and a 14.29% rank-one rate across 70 qualified observations. Google AI Mode is the second-strongest platform, with 41.67% coverage and a 25.00% rank-one rate across 24 observations.

The clearest platform gap is Copilot, where J.G. Wentworth holds 33.33% coverage but a rank-one rate of 14.29% across 21 observations. ChatGPT shows the weakest recommendation conversion relative to presence: the brand appears in 65.00% of ChatGPT answers but earns valid recommendation coverage of only 15.00% and a rank-one rate of 15.00%. The brand also carries a negative sentiment mention on Copilot and one on ChatGPT, the only negative framing in the dataset.

The entire qualified benchmark falls into the brand recommendation cluster. Pricing and value and multi-brand comparison clusters recorded zero qualified observations in July, August, and September 2026. The benchmark measures which brands AI systems recommend, but it does not yet capture how those systems frame cost, pricing trade-offs, or direct head-to-head comparisons.

What J.G. Wentworth Is Winning

Questions This Section Answers

  • Which AI recommendation metrics does J.G. Wentworth lead in structured settlements?
  • Where does J.G. Wentworth's first-position strength separate it from DRB Capital?
  • Which platforms produce the strongest recommendation placement for J.G. Wentworth?

J.G. Wentworth holds the strongest position in the category on every recommendation metric the benchmark tracks. The brand leads on raw mention presence at 84.02%, valid recommendation coverage at 35.50%, top-three rate at 20.71%, and rank-one rate at 15.98%. No other tracked brand exceeds 24.85% coverage or 3.55% rank-one rate.

The brand's first-position strength is the clearest win. J.G. Wentworth holds a 15.98% rank-one rate, meaning it is the first brand recommended in nearly one in six qualified AI answers. DRB Capital, the closest competitor on coverage, holds a rank-one rate of 3.55%. The gap on first-position recommendation is 12.43 points.

Google AI Overviews is the strongest platform for J.G. Wentworth. Across 70 qualified observations, the brand holds 45.71% valid recommendation coverage, an 18.57% top-three rate, and a 14.29% rank-one rate. The brand also holds the highest positive visibility rate on that platform at 45.71%.

Google AI Mode is the second-strongest platform. Across 24 qualified observations, J.G. Wentworth holds 41.67% coverage, a 33.33% top-three rate, and a 25.00% rank-one rate. The brand's average recommended rank on AI Mode is 1.50, the strongest average position across all platforms.

The brand carries the highest positive mention count in the category at 69 positive mentions against 71 neutral and 2 negative. Net sentiment score is 0.4718, positive but lower than DRB Capital's 0.6901 and Fairfield Funding's 0.7037. The two negative mentions are isolated to Copilot and ChatGPT.

Where J.G. Wentworth Has the Clearest AI Visibility Gaps

Questions This Section Answers

  • Why does ChatGPT show the weakest recommendation conversion for J.G. Wentworth despite high presence?
  • How is J.G. Wentworth's lead over DRB Capital and CBC Settlement Funding narrowing on coverage?
  • What explains the drop in J.G. Wentworth's top-three placement rate?

The clearest gap is recommendation conversion on ChatGPT. J.G. Wentworth appears in 65.00% of ChatGPT answers but earns valid recommendation coverage of only 15.00%. The brand holds a 15.00% top-three rate and a 15.00% rank-one rate on that platform. DRB Capital holds 35.00% coverage and a 35.00% top-three rate on ChatGPT, more than double J.G. Wentworth's recommendation conversion despite lower raw presence.

The second gap is Copilot. J.G. Wentworth holds 33.33% coverage on Copilot but a rank-one rate of 14.29%. DRB Capital holds 38.10% coverage and a 23.81% rank-one rate on the same platform. The brand also carries one negative mention on Copilot, the only negative framing on that platform in the dataset.

The third gap is the decline in top-three placement across the category. J.G. Wentworth's top-three rate fell from 44.30% in July 2026 to 20.71% in September 2026. The brand's rank-one rate fell from 32.10% to 15.98% over the same period. The brand is still the most named brand by a wide margin, but it is being placed in top positions far less often.

The fourth gap is the absence of qualified observations in the pricing and value and multi-brand comparison clusters. The benchmark recorded zero qualified observations in those clusters in July, August, and September 2026. J.G. Wentworth cannot demonstrate recommendation strength in pricing or head-to-head comparison prompts because the public benchmark does not yet capture those prompt types.

The fifth gap is the narrowing coverage lead. The gap between J.G. Wentworth and DRB Capital on valid recommendation coverage fell to 10.60 points in September 2026 from 22.20 points in July 2026. The gap between J.G. Wentworth and CBC Settlement Funding fell from 34.00 points to 16.60 points over the same period. The leader's coverage declined faster than the rest of the field.

Biggest Opportunity

Questions This Section Answers

  • What is the highest-priority fix for J.G. Wentworth's AI recommendation position?
  • Which prompts and competitor placements need to be investigated to reverse the top-three decline?

The biggest opportunity is to rebuild top-three placement inside the brand recommendation cluster, where the entire qualified benchmark currently sits. J.G. Wentworth's top-three rate fell 23.60 points from July 2026 to September 2026 while its raw mention presence fell only 7.00 points. The brand is still being named in most answers, but it is being placed in recommendable positions far less often. The path from reference to recommendation is the clearest opportunity in the dataset.

The highest-priority diagnostic is to identify which prompt categories account for the 23.60-point top-three decline and which brands are absorbing those former recommendation slots. The benchmark shows the movement but does not explain the cause. A company-level analysis of the prompts, surfaces, and evidence sources behind the decline would show where the recommendation credit is going and why.

Competitive Landscape

Questions This Section Answers

  • How do the top structured settlement brands compare on top-three and rank-one recommendation rates?
  • Which competitor is moving up in AI recommendations while J.G. Wentworth's coverage declines?

J.G. Wentworth holds recommendation-stage strength in the structured settlements category, but the gap to the rest of the field is narrowing. DRB Capital holds the second-strongest position, and CBC Settlement Funding is the only brand with net upward movement across the three-month series.

Copilot / Best Structured Settlement Buyers & Companies Prompt: "structured settlement loan companies" Result: J.G. Wentworth holds 33.33% coverage and a 14.29% rank-one rate on Copilot, with one negative mention recorded on the platform.

Google AI Mode / Best Structured Settlement Buyers & Companies Prompt: "sell my settlement" Result: J.G. Wentworth holds 41.67% coverage, a 33.33% top-three rate, and a 25.00% rank-one rate on Google AI Mode, with an average recommended rank of 1.50.

What CiteWorks Studio Would Do Next

Phase 1: AI Market Discovery Audit Map the prompt categories, platforms, and competitor placements behind the 23.60-point top-three decline and identify which brands are absorbing former J.G. Wentworth recommendation slots.

Phase 2: Recommendation Readiness Plan Prioritize the ChatGPT and Copilot recommendation conversion gaps, where J.G. Wentworth presence is high but top-three and rank-one placement lag the category leader position.

Phase 3: Owned Answer Layer Buildout Strengthen the owned pages and answer assets that AI systems retrieve when forming brand recommendation answers, with focus on the prompts where J.G. Wentworth is mentioned but not placed in the top three.

Phase 4: Citation / Authority Layer Development Develop the public evidence layer that supports retrievability and recommendation framing, including source pages that AI systems can cite when forming structured settlement brand answers.

Phase 5: Monthly AI Visibility and Recommendation Tracking Track presence, valid recommendation coverage, top-three rate, rank-one rate, and sentiment by platform and cluster to confirm whether the recommendation conversion gap is closing.

Why This Matters

AI presence alone is not enough. J.G. Wentworth is present in 84.02% of qualified AI answers, but it earns valid recommendation coverage of 35.50% and a top-three rate of 20.71%. The brand is being named far more often than it is being recommended. The gap between presence and placement is the commercial risk.

The next move is targeted correction of the prompt, page, and citation layers that shape AI recommendations. The benchmark shows where J.G. Wentworth is winning and where it is losing placement. A company-level analysis shows why. The brands that correct those layers first will hold the recommendation slots that J.G. Wentworth is currently losing.

Sentiment Score

Questions This Section Answers

  • Why is J.G. Wentworth's sentiment score lower than DRB Capital's and Fairfield Funding's despite leading in positive mentions?
  • What do J.G. Wentworth's negative mentions reveal about its AI recommendation framing?

Sentiment Score = (positive mentions × 1 + neutral mentions × 0 + negative mentions × -1) / total mentions

J.G. Wentworth's sentiment score is 0.4718. The brand recorded 69 positive mentions, 71 neutral mentions, and 2 negative mentions across 142 total mentions.

This matters because unclassified mention counts are misleading. A positive recommendation, a neutral reference, a cautionary mention, and a competitor-displaced mention are not equal. Counting all mentions as wins is bad measurement. Share of voice is a diagnostic metric, not a business KPI. Classified sentiment is required before interpreting AI visibility.

J.G. Wentworth's sentiment score is positive but lower than DRB Capital's 0.6901 and Fairfield Funding's 0.7037. The brand carries the highest positive mention count in the category, but its neutral mention count of 71 is also the highest. The two negative mentions are isolated to Copilot and ChatGPT.

Methodology

  1. This report is a benchmark-based analysis of J.G. Wentworth's AI recommendation position in the structured settlements category. It is not a client result and does not imply that CiteWorks Studio caused any benchmark outcome.
  2. The reporting month is September 2026. The benchmark compares September 2026 against July 2026 and August 2026 baselines.
  3. Six AI platforms were tracked: ChatGPT, Copilot, Gemini, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews, and Google AI Mode.
  4. The September 2026 collection began with 708 prompt-surface observations and 442 unique questions. Of those, 708 mentioned a tracked brand or competitor, 462 were relevant to the structured settlements vertical, and 246 were irrelevant. The public denominator is 169 qualified observations after both qualification stages.
  5. Ten brands were tracked: J.G. Wentworth, DRB Capital, CBC Settlement Funding, Fairfield Funding, Stone Street Capital, Strategic Capital, Novation Settlement Solutions, SenecaOne, Liberty Settlement Funding, and Peachtree Financial Solutions.
  6. Three public high-intent clusters were defined: Best Structured Settlement Buyers & Companies (consideration), Structured Settlement Company Comparisons (evaluation), and Structured Settlement Pricing, Rates & Offers (decision). All 169 qualified observations fell into the brand recommendation cluster. The pricing and value and multi-brand comparison clusters recorded zero qualified observations in July, August, and September 2026.
  7. Stage 0 extraction retained the query, AI surface, answer, brand outcome, recommendation placement, sentiment, and, where exposed, citations or attributable evidence sources.
  8. A mention is any qualified observation in which J.G. Wentworth appears in the AI answer. A valid recommendation is a qualified observation in which J.G. Wentworth appears in a credible recommendation context, as marked by the dataset.
  9. Top-three rate is the share of qualified observations in which J.G. Wentworth is recommended in the top three positions. Rank-one rate is the share of qualified observations in which J.G. Wentworth is the first recommendation. Average recommended rank covers rank-eligible recommendations only.
  10. Sentiment score is calculated as (positive mentions × 1 + neutral mentions × 0 + negative mentions × -1) / total mentions. It measures framing quality, not customer sentiment.
  11. The qualified observation count moved from 212 in July 2026 to 164 in August 2026 to 169 in September 2026, while the raw collection grew each month. Brand-level percentages are calculated within the qualified denominator, so shifts in the funnel affect rates.
  12. Movement between months identifies changes worth investigating. It does not by itself establish the cause of those changes. Small counts at the low end of the table should be read as low-visibility signals rather than precise rates.

See Where AI Is Recommending Your Brand

Understanding AI search visibility.

AI search experiences create answers by pulling information from many places online and summarizing it into a single response.

What Is AI Citation Intelligence?
AI citation intelligence is the process of measuring where AI platforms source their information and how frequently a brand is mentioned or referenced in AI-generated responses. Because LLMs synthesize across multiple sources, the sites and brands that appear repeatedly tend to influence how a topic or company is framed. This practice focuses on identifying which sources shape AI outputs and tracking brand visibility across different AI systems.
What Is Citation Architecture?
Citation architecture describes the set of sources that consistently inform how AI systems talk about a brand, product, or topic. LLMs draw from websites, articles, forums, and public discussion, and the sources they rely on most often become the backbone of their answers. Building strong citation architecture means ensuring that accurate, credible, high authority sources are the ones most likely to shape the way AI tools summarize and recommend a brand.
What Is Generative Engine Optimization?
Generative engine optimization (GEO) is the practice of improving the chances that AI systems use and cite your brand or content when generating answers. While traditional SEO is centered on ranking pages in search results, GEO focuses on how LLMs retrieve, interpret, and combine information when responding to a question. The objective is to strengthen the content and sources AI systems rely on, so your brand is treated as a trusted reference in AI responses.
What Is AI Share of Voice?
AI share of voice tracks how often a brand appears in AI-generated answers compared with competitors in the same category. It reflects visibility across AI platforms such as ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, and Perplexity. Monitoring AI share of voice helps organizations see whether AI systems consistently include and recommend their brand for key queries or whether competitor brands are showing up more often.
