Auto Insurance Comparison and Digital Brokerage in AI Search: The Biggest AI Visibility Problems and How We'd Fix Them
This analysis is based on the source benchmark: Auto Insurance Comparison and Digital Brokerage AI visibility benchmark
Key Takeaways
- Insurify and The Zebra were the most consistently mentioned and recommended brands, functioning as default choices in most answers.
- AutoInsurance.com and EverQuote were often mentioned but rarely recommended, showing a wide gap between visibility and endorsement.
- Several brands had conflicting AI claims about carrier network size or quote type, which should be verified against primary sources before any correction request.
- The recommended next steps are a baseline scorecard, fact review of disputed claims, and conditional reviews of owned and third-party pages tied to the weakest appearance-to-endorsement gaps.

Answer Capsule
The November 2026 Auto Insurance Comparison and Digital Brokerage benchmark compares 10 companies across 670 AI answers that met its inclusion rules. Insurify recorded 638 mentions and 453 recommendations (67.61% of the answers). Being mentioned means appearing in an answer; being recommended means receiving an affirmative endorsement.
We examine each company, compare the available monthly results, and set out a five-step plan for improving the information AI systems can draw on. The work starts with measuring visibility and checking conflicting claims, then moves to company pages, relevant publishers and buyer questions. The cited pages need review before any correction request, and the research does not establish what caused recommendation differences or promise future gains.

The peer set splits into two groups. Insurify and The Zebra appear in nearly every answer and are recommended in most of them, so they function as default names in this category. Policygenius and Jerry sit clearly behind them but still hold meaningful recommendation share.
The more striking pattern is the distance between being named and being endorsed. AutoInsurance.com appears in a large share of answers yet is almost never recommended, and EverQuote, Insurance.com and Experian Insurance show a similar gap at smaller scale. Being present in an answer and being put forward as a choice are different outcomes, and the weaker group is losing on the second.
For a client in this category, the practical question is not whether the brand is seen but whether answers give a reason to pick it. Our proposed work starts with a scorecard that separates reach, recommendation and position, then targets the specific answers where a brand appears without endorsement.

Both months are separate samples, so the movement should be read as recorded change rather than like-for-like performance. Insurify and The Zebra each gained mentions while their recommendation counts fell. Policygenius, Jerry and Experian Insurance moved in the same direction on both measures.
The comparability limit matters here. Each month's answer set was selected independently, and the evidence does not establish why counts or rates moved. We would document the sampling conditions alongside each snapshot so future comparisons are read with the same caution, and avoid treating any single month as a trend.

Selected owned-page review candidate: https://jerry.ai/car-insurance/.
Selected third-party review candidate: https://insurify.com/car-insurance/best-car-insurance-apps/.
Jerry is named often and recommended in roughly a quarter of answers, but first-place placements are a small fraction of its recommendations. That suggests answers treat it as a known option rather than a leading pick. The recorded conflicts concern how many insurers it compares, which is a factual question rather than a positioning one.
We would propose a conditional review of the owned comparison page and the selected third-party page, checking current primary sources before any correction is drafted.

Insurify is close to universal in mentions and is recommended in most answers, making it the strongest default in the set. Its recorded conflicts are low severity and concern carrier network size, where different figures may simply reflect different dates or sources.
We would propose a fact-check brief on the network-size claims, verified against current primary sources, plus a review of the owned homepage and the selected third-party review page before any edit is suggested.

EverQuote is named in a modest share of answers but almost never recommended, and its framing skews neutral to negative. The gap between appearing and being endorsed is the central observation; the evidence does not explain it.
We would propose a conditional review of the selected third-party page and a buyer-question brief built from the observed comparison-site questions, with any correction contingent on current primary-source verification.
The Zebra
Questions This Section Answers

The Zebra is named in nearly every answer and recommended in most, placing it alongside Insurify as a default reference. Its recorded conflicts are mostly low severity and concern carrier network size, including a comparison against a named competitor.
We would propose a fact-check brief on those network claims, verified against current primary sources, and a review of the owned site and the selected third-party page before any correction is drafted.
VIU by HUB

VIU by HUB does not appear in the recorded answers at all, so there is no recommendation pattern to interpret and no disputed claims to resolve. An absence of this kind can reflect many things, and the evidence does not identify which.
We would propose a discovery review rather than a performance target: confirm how the brand is described on its own site, check whether answers use a different name for it, and only then decide whether any content work is warranted.
Policygenius

Policygenius is recommended in a substantial share of answers, but first-place placements are a small slice of those recommendations. Answers appear willing to put it forward as one option among several rather than as the leading choice. Its recorded conflicts concern whether quotes are real-time or estimates only.
We would propose a fact-check brief on the quote-type claims and a review of the owned site and selected third-party page before any correction.

Trusted Choice appears in only a handful of answers, but nearly all of those appearances carry a recommendation, and framing is uniformly positive. That is a small base, so the pattern should be read cautiously rather than as a strong position.
We would propose a light-touch review of the owned site and the selected third-party page to confirm how the brand is described, and hold any broader content work until the pattern is confirmed across more answers.

AutoInsurance.com is named in a large share of answers yet almost never recommended, and its framing is overwhelmingly neutral. This is the widest appearance-to-endorsement gap in the set, and the evidence does not explain why answers stop short of endorsing it.
We would propose a conditional review of the owned site and the selected third-party page, focused on whether the brand is described in terms answers can repeat as a reason to choose it.

The CiteWorks five-step improvement plan
Step 1. Establish the baseline
Questions This Section Answers
- What should the agency deliver when it works to establish the baseline for Auto Insurance Comparison and Digital Brokerage?
We would build a cohort scorecard that records mentions, recommendations, shortlist placements and first-place placements separately for each company, with the sampling conditions noted beside each snapshot. Every record gets an owner, an evidence requirement and a review status so later work can be traced back to a specific observation.
The scorecard is a working document, not a verdict. It gives the team a shared reference for what was measured and what remains unverified before any content or outreach begins.
Step 2. Verify disputed facts
Questions This Section Answers
- What should the agency deliver when it works to verify disputed facts for Auto Insurance Comparison and Digital Brokerage?
AI answers contained 97 conflicting claims across 4 companies. Another 0 possible conflicts were excluded because their company matches were uncertain. The conflicting claims need fact-checking before any corrections are proposed.
The recorded conflicts cluster around a few companies and mostly concern carrier network size and quote type. Before proposing any correction, we would resolve the entity, the date and the source behind each claim, since different dates can explain an apparent conflict.
Ambiguous company matches stay outside the queue. Each disputed claim gets a fact-check record showing what was checked, what the primary source says, and whether a correction, a no-change decision or a further query is appropriate.
Step 3. Review owned pages
Questions This Section Answers
- What should the agency deliver when it works to review owned pages for Auto Insurance Comparison and Digital Brokerage?
We would assign page briefs to the supplied owned-page candidates, starting with the pages tied to companies that show the widest appearance-to-endorsement gaps. Each brief states what the page needs to establish and which claims require current primary-source verification before editing.
No page is assumed to be wrong or incomplete. The brief is a proposal for review, and any edit is conditional on what the verification finds.
Step 4. Review third-party sources
Questions This Section Answers
- What should the agency deliver when it works to review third-party sources for Auto Insurance Comparison and Digital Brokerage?
For the selected third-party pages, we would prepare source-review packages that set out the specific claim in question, the evidence behind it and a clear request. Each package is checked against the page's current contents before it is sent, since a citation does not establish that a page influenced an answer.
Requests and responses are logged separately so the team can see what was asked, what was confirmed and what remains open.
Step 5. Address buyer questions and measure again
Questions This Section Answers
- What should the agency deliver when it works to address buyer questions and measure again for Auto Insurance Comparison and Digital Brokerage?
The observed buyer questions give us a starting point for content briefs on comparison apps, quote sites and combined home-and-car shopping. These are recorded answer observations, not verified demand, so the briefs describe what to cover rather than what audiences are searching for.
We would then measure again and record delivered work separately from answer outcomes, so any movement can be read alongside the comparability limits rather than attributed to the work.

These pages are candidates for review, not confirmed errors. Citation appearances are counted across the captured answers and are not added again for each company.
The publisher list should be prioritized by how often each page is cited across the captured answers and by how many of the client-relevant companies it covers. Pages that recur and discuss several companies are the natural first reviews; single-company pages come later.
Citation frequency is not evidence of influence, and none of these pages is a confirmed error. Before any request, we would verify the page's current contents and the specific claim at issue, then decide whether a review request is justified or whether the page should simply be monitored.
What we'd prioritize first
Period | Deliverable | Completion criterion |
|---|---|---|
Days 1–30 | Baseline scorecard, scoped fact-review register and page/source shortlist | Each record has an owner, evidence requirement and review status |
Days 31–60 | Approved page briefs and justified publisher requests | Separate confirmed edits, no-change decisions, requests and responses |
Days 61–90 | Buyer-content briefs and a fresh scorecard | Record work completed separately from measured answer outcomes and comparability limits |
The first priority is the appearance-to-endorsement gap. AutoInsurance.com and EverQuote show it most sharply, and understanding what answers say about them is more useful than chasing more mentions. The second is the disputed carrier-network and quote-type claims, which need primary-source verification before anything is proposed.
The third is the publisher shortlist, where a small number of frequently cited pages cover several relevant companies. We would sequence the work so the scorecard and fact-review register are in place before page briefs or publisher requests are drafted, and keep delivered work recorded separately from answer outcomes.
Methodology and conclusion
Questions This Section Answers
- What do the Auto Insurance Comparison and Digital Brokerage sample and source-review limits allow us to conclude?
This report covers 2026-11. The exact dates when the original AI answers were collected have not been verified. The visibility rates use 670 answers that met the benchmark's inclusion rules. A company is recommended only when the answer both endorses it and uses positive wording. Top 3 and first-place counts are part of those recommendations, not extra recommendations.
An answer can mention or recommend several companies, so company counts cannot be added to find the number of distinct answers. The net sentiment score is positive minus negative mentions, divided by all company mentions; it describes answer wording, not customer satisfaction.
The wider citation analysis covers 800 captured answers and 5154 appearances of cited URLs. Citation appearances across all captured answers differ from the number of benchmark answers citing a page and the number that also recommend a company. The current contents of cited pages and disputed company claims still need independent verification.
Monthly sample coverage:
Reporting month | Answers included | AI services covered | Services |
|---|---|---|---|
Oct 2026 | 599 | 6 | ChatGPT, Copilot, Gemini, Google AI Mode, Google AI Overviews, Perplexity |
Nov 2026 | 670 | 6 | ChatGPT, Copilot, Gemini, Google AI Mode, Google AI Overviews, Perplexity |
The answer samples differ between months. These comparisons show how the recorded results changed; they do not establish why they changed.
The visibility figures describe how often each company was named and endorsed across the included answers, not customer satisfaction or market share. Because an answer can cover several companies, company counts cannot be added together, and recommendation, shortlist and first-place figures are nested rather than separate.
The two monthly samples differ, so the comparisons show recorded change without establishing why it occurred. Citation counts describe appearances across captured answers and do not prove that a page shaped an answer.
Our proposed next steps are a baseline scorecard, a scoped fact-review register, conditional page and source reviews, and buyer-question briefs, with a fresh measurement at the end. None of this guarantees a change in how answers treat any company.
