Answer Capsule

The November 2026 Mortgage benchmark compares 6 companies across 540 AI answers that met its inclusion rules. Rocket Mortgage recorded 528 mentions and 358 recommendations (66.30% of the answers). Being mentioned means appearing in an answer; being recommended means receiving an affirmative endorsement.

We examine each company, compare the available monthly results, and set out a five-step plan for improving the information AI systems can draw on. The work starts with measuring visibility and checking conflicting claims, then moves to company pages, relevant publishers and buyer questions. The cited pages need review before any correction request, and the research does not establish what caused recommendation differences or promise future gains.

The peer set splits into a clear leader and a crowded middle. Rocket Mortgage appears in nearly every answer and is recommended in most of them, while Veterans United Home Loans holds a strong second position. The gap between being mentioned and being recommended widens sharply further down the list.

loanDepot and PennyMac show the widest separation between reach and endorsement. Both are named often but recommended far less often, which suggests presence without persuasion. New American Funding and Freedom Mortgage sit lower on reach, yet a reasonable share of their mentions carry an affirmative recommendation.

For the agency, the practical implication is that visibility work and endorsement work are different jobs. The peer set needs a shared baseline before any client-specific action, so the first move is a scorecard that records mentions, recommendations and placements separately for each company.

The monthly results are separate selected samples rather than a like-for-like series. A change in a company's count or rate should be read as movement within that month's sample, and the report cannot say why any count or rate changed.

With that limit stated, the recorded results moved in different directions. Rocket Mortgage, Veterans United Home Loans, PennyMac and Freedom Mortgage all recorded lower recommendation counts in the latest month, while New American Funding recorded higher mention and recommendation counts. loanDepot's mentions rose while its recommendations fell.

These are separate observations. The agency should treat the latest month as one snapshot to be compared only after future samples are documented consistently.

loanDepot is named in roughly half the answers but recommended in a much smaller share, and first-place placements are rare. That pattern points to a reach problem that is really an endorsement problem: the company is present in the conversation without being the answer.

The recorded conflicts about loanDepot include a high-severity credit-score claim and a low-severity ranking claim. Neither is a verified error. We would propose a fact-check brief that resolves the entity, date and source behind each claim before any correction is considered, and a page review of the supplied owned and third-party candidates.

Veterans United Home Loans

Questions This Section Answers

  • What measured visibility pattern and review priority does Veterans United Home Loans have in Mortgage?

Veterans United Home Loans combines strong reach with a high recommendation share, and its first-place count is the second strongest in the set. The framing of its mentions is overwhelmingly positive, which is consistent with a lender that answers are comfortable endorsing.

The recorded conflicts are mostly low severity, with one medium claim about loan types. We would propose a verification brief on that claim and a review of the supplied owned and third-party pages, checking current primary sources before any edit or publisher request is drafted.

Freedom Mortgage has modest reach, and a meaningful share of its mentions carry an affirmative recommendation, while first-place placements are few relative to that reach. The pattern is one of steady endorsement rather than headline placement.

A single medium-severity conflict concerns which lender is largest by FHA volume. That claim is contested between companies, so it needs careful entity and date resolution before any action. We would propose a fact-check brief and a review of the supplied owned and third-party pages, with corrections only where current primary sources support them.

Questions This Section Answers

  • What measured visibility pattern and review priority does PennyMac have in Mortgage?

PennyMac recorded 210 mentions (38.89%) and 75 recommendations (13.89%) across 540 answers included in the benchmark. Top 3 placements numbered 66; first-place recommendations numbered 8. Framing among its mentions was 103 positive, 106 neutral and 1 negative.

PennyMac is mentioned fairly often but recommended in a much smaller share, and its first-place count is low. The gap between reach and endorsement is the widest in the peer set after loanDepot, which makes endorsement the more useful focus.

The recorded conflicts are the most numerous of any company here, including high-severity credit-score claims. We would propose a prioritized fact-check brief covering those claims first, followed by a review of the supplied owned and third-party pages, with every proposed correction tied to current primary-source verification.

New American Funding has moderate reach and a recommendation share that is strong relative to its mention count, though first-place placements are rare. Its mentions are almost entirely positive in framing, which suggests answers treat it favorably without making it the leading choice.

The recorded conflicts are low and medium severity, covering credit-score thresholds and headquarters location. We would propose a verification brief on those points and a review of the supplied owned and third-party pages, confirming current facts before any edit is recommended.

Rocket Mortgage is the dominant presence in the peer set, appearing in almost every answer and recommended in most of them, with the largest first-place count by a wide margin. Its position is the benchmark others are measured against.

The recorded conflicts are mostly low severity, with one high-severity claim about a ranking category. We would propose a fact-check brief on that claim and a review of the supplied owned and third-party pages, since even a small correction burden matters more for the company answers reference most often.

The CiteWorks five-step improvement plan

Step 1. Establish the baseline

Questions This Section Answers

  • What should the agency deliver when it works to establish the baseline for Mortgage?

Build a cohort scorecard that records mentions, recommendations, top-three placements and first-place placements for each company as separate columns. Keep the definitions fixed so future months can be compared without reinterpreting what each measure means.

Document the sample size and the services covered for each reporting month alongside the results. This gives the client a traceable baseline and makes the comparability limit visible rather than buried in a footnote.

Step 2. Verify disputed facts

Questions This Section Answers

  • What should the agency deliver when it works to verify disputed facts for Mortgage?

AI answers contained 54 conflicting claims across 6 companies. Another 0 possible conflicts were excluded because their company matches were uncertain. The conflicting claims need fact-checking before any corrections are proposed.

Work through the recorded conflicts company by company, starting with the high-severity claims and the contested ranking statements. For each one, identify the entity, the date and the primary source that would settle it.

Ambiguous company matches stay outside the correction queue. The output is a review register that records confirmed facts, unresolved questions and no-change decisions, so the client can see what was checked and what remains open.

Step 3. Review owned pages

Questions This Section Answers

  • What should the agency deliver when it works to review owned pages for Mortgage?

Assign page briefs to the supplied owned-page candidates, one per company. Each brief should list the specific facts to confirm against current primary sources before any edit is proposed.

Briefs are proposals, not findings. They should state what the page needs to answer clearly for a buyer and what evidence would support each statement, leaving the actual page contents to be verified by the client or a reviewer.

Step 4. Review third-party sources

Questions This Section Answers

  • What should the agency deliver when it works to review third-party sources for Mortgage?

Prepare source-review packages for the supplied third-party candidates, starting with the pages that appear most often across captured answers. Each package should record what the page currently says and which company claims it touches.

Requests to publishers follow only after verification. The package should separate confirmed edits, no-change decisions, outgoing requests and responses, so the client can track what was asked and what came back without treating a citation as proof of influence.

Step 5. Address buyer questions and measure again

Questions This Section Answers

  • What should the agency deliver when it works to address buyer questions and measure again for Mortgage?

Turn the observed buyer questions into content briefs that answer them directly, using the recorded questions as the starting point rather than as evidence of search demand. Briefs should cover the lender-selection and loan-type questions where companies appear.

Measurement comes after delivery. A fresh scorecard should record completed work separately from answer outcomes, and any change in mentions or recommendations should be reported with the same comparability limits as the baseline.

These pages are candidates for review, not confirmed errors. Citation appearances are counted across the captured answers and are not added again for each company.

The publisher pages selected for review vary widely in how often they appear across captured answers. The bankrate and cnbc lender lists are the most frequently cited, and both cover several companies in the peer set, which makes them the natural first review targets.

The remaining pages are narrower: some cover a single company, others focus on FHA lending. Citation frequency is not evidence of influence, and a page's current contents still need independent verification before any request is drafted.

We would prioritize the broad, multi-company pages first, then the company-specific reviews where a recorded conflict touches the same topic. Each review should confirm what the page says today before the agency proposes anything.

What we'd prioritize first

Period

Deliverable

Completion criterion

Days 1–30

Baseline scorecard, scoped fact-review register and page/source shortlist

Each record has an owner, evidence requirement and review status

Days 31–60

Approved page briefs and justified publisher requests

Separate confirmed edits, no-change decisions, requests and responses

Days 61–90

Buyer-content briefs and a fresh scorecard

Record work completed separately from measured answer outcomes and comparability limits

Start with the baseline scorecard and the fact-review register, because every later decision depends on a shared record of what was measured and what was disputed. The high-severity claims at PennyMac and loanDepot, and the contested ranking claims, should lead the review queue.

Next, prepare page briefs for the supplied owned pages and source-review packages for the most-cited publisher pages. Keep confirmed edits, no-change decisions and outgoing requests in separate records so progress is visible without overstating it.

Finally, draft buyer-question content briefs and plan a fresh scorecard. Report completed work separately from answer outcomes, and do not present any later movement as proof that an intervention worked.

Methodology and conclusion

Questions This Section Answers

  • What do the Mortgage sample and source-review limits allow us to conclude?

This report covers 2026-11. The exact dates when the original AI answers were collected have not been verified. The visibility rates use 540 answers that met the benchmark's inclusion rules. A company is recommended only when the answer both endorses it and uses positive wording. Top 3 and first-place counts are part of those recommendations, not extra recommendations.

An answer can mention or recommend several companies, so company counts cannot be added to find the number of distinct answers. The net sentiment score is positive minus negative mentions, divided by all company mentions; it describes answer wording, not customer satisfaction.

The wider citation analysis covers 800 captured answers and 4897 appearances of cited URLs. Citation appearances across all captured answers differ from the number of benchmark answers citing a page and the number that also recommend a company. The current contents of cited pages and disputed company claims still need independent verification.

Recommendations require both an endorsement and positive wording, and placements sit inside recommendations rather than adding to them. The recorded conflicts are claims to verify, not established errors, and the cited pages still need independent checking.

The proposed next steps are a baseline scorecard, a fact-review register, page and source briefs, buyer-question content and a later scorecard. None of these guarantees a change in answer outcomes; they make the work traceable and the comparisons honest.

Understanding AI search visibility.

AI search experiences create answers by pulling information from many places online and summarizing it into a single response.

What Is AI Citation Intelligence?
AI citation intelligence is the process of measuring where AI platforms source their information and how frequently a brand is mentioned or referenced in AI-generated responses. Because LLMs synthesize across multiple sources, the sites and brands that appear repeatedly tend to influence how a topic or company is framed. This practice focuses on identifying which sources shape AI outputs and tracking brand visibility across different AI systems.
What Is Citation Architecture?
Citation architecture describes the set of sources that consistently inform how AI systems talk about a brand, product, or topic. LLMs draw from websites, articles, forums, and public discussion, and the sources they rely on most often become the backbone of their answers. Building strong citation architecture means ensuring that accurate, credible, high authority sources are the ones most likely to shape the way AI tools summarize and recommend a brand.
What Is Generative Engine Optimization?
Generative engine optimization (GEO) is the practice of improving the chances that AI systems use and cite your brand or content when generating answers. While traditional SEO is centered on ranking pages in search results, GEO focuses on how LLMs retrieve, interpret, and combine information when responding to a question. The objective is to strengthen the content and sources AI systems rely on, so your brand is treated as a trusted reference in AI responses.
What Is AI Share of Voice?
AI share of voice tracks how often a brand appears in AI-generated answers compared with competitors in the same category. It reflects visibility across AI platforms such as ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, and Perplexity. Monitoring AI share of voice helps organizations see whether AI systems consistently include and recommend their brand for key queries or whether competitor brands are showing up more often.
