Trademark Registration Services in AI Search: The Biggest AI Visibility Problems and How We'd Fix Them

Mark HuntleyBy Mark HuntleyFounder and CEO

Key Takeaways

  • LegalZoom, ZenBusiness, and Bizee (Incfile) dominate most answers, while the rest of the field appears far less often.
  • Mentions and recommendations are not the same; some brands are widely mentioned but less often endorsed, and first-place counts can differ from overall reach.
  • Several companies have conflicting pricing or service claims in AI answers, with LegalZoom and Trademarkia carrying the clearest high-priority discrepancies.
  • The recommended next step is to verify disputed facts against primary sources before changing owned pages or requesting updates from third-party publishers.

Companies covered: Heer Law, Gerben IP, LegalZoom, Trademarkia, ZenBusiness, Rocket Lawyer, Swyft Filings, Bizee (Incfile), Trademark Engine, Trademark Factory

Answer Capsule

The November 2026 Trademark Registration Services benchmark compares 10 companies across 576 AI answers that met its inclusion rules. LegalZoom recorded 532 mentions and 219 recommendations (38.02% of the answers). Being mentioned means appearing in an answer; being recommended means receiving an affirmative endorsement.

We examine each company, compare the available monthly results, and set out a five-step plan for improving the information AI systems can draw on. The work starts with measuring visibility and checking conflicting claims, then moves to company pages, relevant publishers and buyer questions. The cited pages need review before any correction request, and the research does not establish what caused recommendation differences or promise future gains.

The peer set splits into two tiers. LegalZoom, ZenBusiness and Bizee (Incfile) appear in most answers and are recommended in a large share of them, so they function as default names in this category. Rocket Lawyer sits clearly behind that group but well ahead of everyone else.

The rest of the field is thin. Trademark Engine, Swyft Filings, Trademarkia, Trademark Factory, Gerben IP and Heer Law each appear in a small fraction of answers, and several are rarely or never recommended. For a buyer, the practical effect is that AI answers tend to shortlist the same few brands.

Reach and endorsement are not the same thing. ZenBusiness is recommended less often than LegalZoom despite appearing in fewer answers, and its first-place count is higher. That gap is worth understanding before anyone treats raw mention volume as the goal.

Our starting work is to build a traceable scorecard for this cohort, then verify the disputed claims behind the pricing and service descriptions that recur across answers. Only after that would we brief page changes or publisher requests.

The monthly samples differ in size and in which AI services were covered, so the month-to-month figures are separate snapshots rather than a like-for-like trend. November included far more answers than October, and the service mix changed between months.

Several companies moved sharply between October and November, in both directions. ZenBusiness went from almost no recorded presence to a large one; Gerben IP and Trademarkia moved the other way. Those swings are recorded observations, and the comparability limits mean we should not read a cause into them.

We would document the sample composition alongside each future snapshot so later comparisons are honest about what changed.

Heer Law does not appear in the recorded answers at all, so there is no recommendation pattern to interpret yet. Before setting any target, we would confirm the entity is being matched correctly and check whether the name appears under a variant.

If the match holds, we would propose a conditional review of the pages and publisher sources where trademark buyers look for counsel, and only then decide whether any content work is warranted.

Gerben IP was mentioned in a handful of answers, all with neutral framing, and received no recommendations. The prior month showed a much larger presence, but the samples are not comparable, so we treat the current picture as the starting point.

We would propose a fact-check of the two observed questions where the firm appeared, plus a review of the selected third-party page, to see whether anything verifiable supports a stronger position.

LegalZoom

LegalZoom has the widest reach in the set and a substantial recommendation share, with mostly positive or neutral framing. Its conflicting claims are the most numerous, including high-priority pricing and founding-year discrepancies, which matter because buyers rely on those details when comparing providers.

We would propose a fact-check of the disputed pricing and history claims against current primary sources, then a page brief for the owned LLC overview and a review of the selected third-party review page.

Trademarkia appears in a small share of answers and is recommended in fewer still, though framing is largely positive. Its two recorded conflicts both concern the starting price of its trademark service and are rated high priority, so the pricing story is the clearest thing to verify.

Selected owned-page review candidate: https://trademarkengine.com/.

Selected third-party review candidate: https://legalzoom.com/business/intellectual-property/trademark-registration-overview.html.

Trademark Engine appears in a small share of answers and is recommended in fewer, with neutral framing dominating. Its conflicts concern service pricing, where answers give different starting figures, and the prior month's much larger presence is not comparable given the sample change.

We would propose verifying current pricing, then reviewing the owned homepage and the selected LegalZoom overview page that was cited alongside it.

Selected owned-page review candidate: https://trademarkfactory.com/.

Selected third-party review candidate: https://forbes.com/advisor/business/trademark-services/.

Trademark Factory appears in very few answers but is recommended in half of those, which is a notable endorsement rate relative to its reach. It holds almost no first-place positions, so its presence is supportive rather than leading.

We would propose reviewing the owned homepage and the selected Forbes advisor page to understand how the firm is described, and verifying any claims before considering content work.

The CiteWorks five-step improvement plan

Step 1. Establish the baseline

Questions This Section Answers

  • What should the agency deliver when it works to establish the baseline for Trademark Registration Services?

Build a cohort scorecard that records, for each company, its mentions, recommendations, placements and framing, with the sample composition noted beside it. Each record needs an owner, the evidence required and a review status, so future months can be compared on a documented basis rather than assumed equivalence.

Step 2. Verify disputed facts

Questions This Section Answers

  • What should the agency deliver when it works to verify disputed facts for Trademark Registration Services?

AI answers contained 65 conflicting claims across 7 companies. Another 0 possible conflicts were excluded because their company matches were uncertain. The conflicting claims need fact-checking before any corrections are proposed.

Work through the recorded conflicts company by company, starting with the high-priority pricing and founding-year claims. Each item needs a current primary source, a resolved entity and a date before anyone decides whether a correction is warranted. Items with uncertain company matches stay out of the queue.

Step 3. Review owned pages

Questions This Section Answers

  • What should the agency deliver when it works to review owned pages for Trademark Registration Services?

Assign page briefs to the supplied owned URLs, with each brief stating what needs checking against current primary sources before any edit. Briefs should separate confirmed changes from no-change decisions, and no page should be edited on the strength of an AI answer alone.

Step 4. Review third-party sources

Questions This Section Answers

  • What should the agency deliver when it works to review third-party sources for Trademark Registration Services?

Prepare source-review packages for the selected third-party pages, verifying what each page currently says before any request is made. Requests should be evidence-backed and tracked separately from responses, and a citation in an answer should not be treated as proof of that page's influence.

Step 5. Address buyer questions and measure again

Questions This Section Answers

  • What should the agency deliver when it works to address buyer questions and measure again for Trademark Registration Services?

Turn the observed buyer questions into content briefs, focusing on the comparison and pricing questions where companies actually appeared. Track delivered work separately from answer outcomes, and plan a fresh scorecard so the next snapshot can be read against a documented baseline.

These pages are candidates for review, not confirmed errors. Citation appearances are counted across the captured answers and are not added again for each company.

The selected publisher pages vary widely in how often they were cited, and citation frequency is not the same as influence on a recommendation. We would prioritize pages that cover several companies and that sit alongside disputed claims, then verify their current contents before any outreach.

The review pages for ZenBusiness and the comparison pages for LegalZoom and Rocket Lawyer are natural starting points because those companies carry the most disputed pricing detail. Trademark-focused lists are worth checking for the smaller firms, where a single accurate listing could matter more.

What we'd prioritize first

Period

Deliverable

Completion criterion

Days 1–30

Baseline scorecard, scoped fact-review register and page/source shortlist

Each record has an owner, evidence requirement and review status

Days 31–60

Approved page briefs and justified publisher requests

Separate confirmed edits, no-change decisions, requests and responses

Days 61–90

Buyer-content briefs and a fresh scorecard

Record work completed separately from measured answer outcomes and comparability limits

The first priority is the fact base, not new content. LegalZoom and Trademarkia carry high-priority pricing conflicts, and several other companies have medium-severity pricing discrepancies that recur across answers. Resolving those against current primary sources comes before any page or publisher request.

The second priority is the scorecard and comparability record, so the sharp month-to-month swings are documented rather than over-interpreted. The third is page and source review for the companies with the clearest evidence gaps, followed by buyer-question briefs and a fresh measurement.

Methodology and conclusion

Questions This Section Answers

  • What do the Trademark Registration Services sample and source-review limits allow us to conclude?

This report covers 2026-11. The exact dates when the original AI answers were collected have not been verified. The visibility rates use 576 answers that met the benchmark's inclusion rules. A company is recommended only when the answer both endorses it and uses positive wording. Top 3 and first-place counts are part of those recommendations, not extra recommendations.

An answer can mention or recommend several companies, so company counts cannot be added to find the number of distinct answers. The net sentiment score is positive minus negative mentions, divided by all company mentions; it describes answer wording, not customer satisfaction.

The wider citation analysis covers 800 captured answers and 5292 appearances of cited URLs. Citation appearances across all captured answers differ from the number of benchmark answers citing a page and the number that also recommend a company. The current contents of cited pages and disputed company claims still need independent verification.

The answer samples differ between months. These comparisons show how the recorded results changed; they do not establish why they changed.

These results describe how often companies appeared and were endorsed in the included answers, not customer satisfaction or market share. Recommendations require both an endorsement and positive wording, and placements sit inside recommendations rather than adding to them. The monthly samples differ, so changes are recorded observations, not explanations.

The proposed next steps are a documented scorecard, verified fact reviews, page and source briefs, and buyer-question content, with delivered work tracked separately from answer outcomes. No outcome is guaranteed, and the current contents of cited pages still need independent verification.

Understanding AI search visibility.

AI search experiences create answers by pulling information from many places online and summarizing it into a single response.

What Is AI Citation Intelligence?
AI citation intelligence is the process of measuring where AI platforms source their information and how frequently a brand is mentioned or referenced in AI-generated responses. Because LLMs synthesize across multiple sources, the sites and brands that appear repeatedly tend to influence how a topic or company is framed. This practice focuses on identifying which sources shape AI outputs and tracking brand visibility across different AI systems.
What Is Citation Architecture?
Citation architecture describes the set of sources that consistently inform how AI systems talk about a brand, product, or topic. LLMs draw from websites, articles, forums, and public discussion, and the sources they rely on most often become the backbone of their answers. Building strong citation architecture means ensuring that accurate, credible, high authority sources are the ones most likely to shape the way AI tools summarize and recommend a brand.
What Is Generative Engine Optimization?
Generative engine optimization (GEO) is the practice of improving the chances that AI systems use and cite your brand or content when generating answers. While traditional SEO is centered on ranking pages in search results, GEO focuses on how LLMs retrieve, interpret, and combine information when responding to a question. The objective is to strengthen the content and sources AI systems rely on, so your brand is treated as a trusted reference in AI responses.
What Is AI Share of Voice?
AI share of voice tracks how often a brand appears in AI-generated answers compared with competitors in the same category. It reflects visibility across AI platforms such as ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, and Perplexity. Monitoring AI share of voice helps organizations see whether AI systems consistently include and recommend their brand for key queries or whether competitor brands are showing up more often.
