CARCHEX AI Visibility Market Strategy Report - Auto Warranty

CARCHEX AI Visibility Market Strategy Report - Auto Warranty

Answer Capsule

CARCHEX holds the second-strongest recommendation position in the Auto Warranty category for October 2026, with valid recommendation coverage of 82.5% across 633 qualified observations. The brand is visible in 90.2% of qualified AI responses and appears in the top three in 65.4% of them, but it takes the first recommendation position in only 1.1% of observations. The clearest win is a 9.3-point month-over-month coverage gain that reversed a two-month decline; the clearest weakness is a rank-one rate that remains far below its top-three strength; the clearest opportunity is converting broad presence into first-position recommendations.

Executive Summary

CARCHEX enters October 2026 as the strongest challenger in the Auto Warranty category. The brand recorded 82.5% valid recommendation coverage, second only to Endurance at 91.6%, and it returned to second position after a two-month decline. The gap to the category leader is 9.1 points.

The brand's presence is broad. CARCHEX appeared in 90.2% of the 633 qualified observations, with 571 total mentions. Of those mentions, 529 were positive, 42 were neutral, and none were negative, producing a net sentiment score of 0.9264. That is a clean framing profile with no cautionary or negative mention drag.

The strongest cluster is the brand recommendation cluster, which is the only cluster with qualified observations in October 2026. Within it, CARCHEX converted 522 of 633 qualified observations into valid recommendations, a coverage rate of 82.5%. Its top-three rate of 65.4% places it third in the category behind Endurance and CarShield.

The weakest signal is first-position placement. CARCHEX recorded 7 rank-one recommendations from 633 qualified observations, a rank-one rate of 1.1%. Endurance recorded 550 first positions in the same period. This is the sharpest structural gap in the CARCHEX profile: the brand is recommended often, but almost never as the single best option.

The strongest platform signal is Gemini, where CARCHEX reached 87.95% valid recommendation coverage and a 2.5205 average recommended rank. The weakest platform signal is Copilot, where coverage fell to 53.25% and the average recommended rank was 3.0976. Copilot also produced the highest neutral mention share for the brand at 19.48%.

The clearest gap is the combination of high presence and low first-position conversion. CARCHEX is visible in nearly every qualified response and reaches the top three in roughly two-thirds of them, but it is displaced at the final selection step. The benchmark also flags one high-severity factual inconsistency about vehicle eligibility limits across ChatGPT and AI Mode, which is addressed later in this report.

What CARCHEX Is Winning

Questions This Section Answers

  • Where does CARCHEX's recommendation strength actually come from in the Auto Warranty category?
  • Which platforms are closest to matching the category leader for CARCHEX?

CARCHEX holds the second-strongest recommendation position in the category. Its 82.5% valid recommendation coverage is 10.4 points above third-place CarShield and 38.6 points above the highest-coverage brand outside the top three.

The brand recorded the largest month-over-month coverage increase in the category. Coverage rose from 73.2% in September 2026 to 82.5% in October 2026, a 9.3-point gain that the benchmark flags as beyond normal variation. Since the May 2026 baseline of 30.2%, CARCHEX has risen 52.3 points, the second-largest cumulative move after Endurance.

CARCHEX carries zero negative mentions across 633 qualified observations. Its net sentiment score of 0.9264 reflects a framing profile built almost entirely on positive mentions, with 42 neutral mentions and no cautionary or negative framing.

The brand also performs well on Gemini and Perplexity. On Gemini, CARCHEX reached 87.95% valid recommendation coverage with a 2.5205 average recommended rank. On Perplexity, coverage reached 90.7% with a 2.7564 average recommended rank. These are the two platforms where the brand's recommendation conversion is closest to the category leader.

Where CARCHEX Has the Clearest AI Visibility Gaps

Questions This Section Answers

  • Why is CARCHEX named as an option far more often than it is named as the best auto warranty provider?
  • Which platform shows the weakest recommendation coverage for CARCHEX?
  • What caused the conflicting CARCHEX vehicle eligibility figures on ChatGPT and Google AI Mode?

The defining gap is first-position displacement. CARCHEX appears in the top three in 65.4% of qualified observations but takes the first position in only 1.1%. Endurance, by contrast, holds an 86.9% rank-one rate. In practical terms, when an AI system is asked for the best auto warranty provider, CARCHEX is frequently named as an option but rarely named as the answer.

Copilot is the weakest platform for the brand. CARCHEX reached only 53.25% valid recommendation coverage on Copilot, compared with 87.95% on Gemini and 90.7% on Perplexity. The average recommended rank on Copilot was 3.0976, the lowest placement quality across the six tracked platforms. Copilot also produced the highest neutral mention share for CARCHEX at 19.48%, suggesting the platform often references the brand without converting that reference into a recommendation.

CarShield illustrates the displacement pattern from the opposite direction. CarShield holds a 75.5% top-three rate, higher than CARCHEX at 65.4%, but records zero rank-one placements. Both brands are strong in the top three and absent at the first position, which suggests the category's first-position slot is concentrated almost entirely with Endurance.

The benchmark also flags one high-severity factual inconsistency involving CARCHEX. When asked "What is the best extended warranty company?", ChatGPT stated that CARCHEX can cover vehicles up to 25 years old and 250,000 miles, while Google AI Mode stated a maximum eligibility of up to 10 years. These are incompatible eligibility limits, and both answers were produced in response to the same question. The conflicting claims were sourced from third-party review and comparison pages, including Cars.com, NerdWallet, ConsumerAffairs, and CNBC. This is a framing accuracy issue rather than a recommendation coverage issue, but it affects how confidently a buyer can act on a CARCHEX recommendation.

Biggest Opportunity

Questions This Section Answers

  • What is the single biggest opportunity for CARCHEX in AI recommendations?
  • Where should CARCHEX start when trying to convert top-three placements into first-position recommendations?

The single biggest opportunity is converting top-three placements into first-position recommendations. CARCHEX already reaches the top three in 65.4% of qualified observations, which means the brand is present at the decision moment in most relevant AI responses. The gap is at the final selection step, where Endurance takes 86.9% of first positions and CARCHEX takes 1.1%.

Closing even a portion of that gap would move CARCHEX from a frequently listed option to a frequently chosen answer. The work required is targeted: identify the prompts where CARCHEX reaches the top three but not first place, determine which competitor occupies the first position in those responses, and correct the page, prompt, and citation layers that shape the final recommendation. The Copilot platform, where coverage drops to 53.25%, is the clearest starting point because it represents both a coverage gap and a placement gap.

Competitive Landscape

Questions This Section Answers

  • Who leads the Auto Warranty category in AI recommendations, and where does CARCHEX rank?
  • How does CARCHEX compare with Endurance and CarShield on top-three and rank-one rates?

Endurance holds dominant recommendation power in the Auto Warranty category, with CARCHEX and CarShield forming a tight second tier behind it. CARCHEX sits second on valid recommendation coverage but third on top-three rate, and its rank-one rate is far below the category leader.

AI Response Inconsistency Alerts

Questions This Section Answers

  • What conflicting CARCHEX eligibility facts appeared across AI platforms?
  • Which third-party sources produced the conflicting eligibility claims, and why does the conflict matter for buyers?

One critical or high-severity factual inconsistency was detected for CARCHEX across two AI platforms.

When asked "What is the best extended warranty company?", ChatGPT and Google AI Mode provided conflicting information about CARCHEX vehicle eligibility limits. ChatGPT stated that CARCHEX can cover vehicles up to 25 years old and 250,000 miles. Google AI Mode stated a maximum eligibility of up to 10 years, with mileage varying. These two claims are incompatible: a 25-year eligibility window and a 10-year eligibility window cannot both describe the same coverage policy.

The conflicting responses were produced by ChatGPT and Google AI Mode in response to the same question. ChatGPT cited Cars.com, NerdWallet, and ConsumerAffairs as sources. Google AI Mode cited CNBC, Cars.com, and a ConsumerAffairs California-specific page. The disagreement appears to originate in how third-party comparison pages describe CARCHEX eligibility, and the two platforms synthesized those pages into different conclusions.

This is a high-severity conflict because eligibility limits are a primary decision factor for buyers evaluating extended warranty coverage. A buyer who receives the 10-year figure may rule out CARCHEX for a vehicle that the brand would actually cover, and a buyer who receives the 25-year figure may form expectations the brand cannot meet. The conflict also affects the reliability of any CARCHEX recommendation, since a recommendation built on inconsistent eligibility facts is harder for a buyer to act on with confidence.

Prompt Evidence

Questions This Section Answers

  • Which prompts and platforms produced the strongest and weakest CARCHEX recommendation results?

ChatGPT / Brand Recommendation Prompt: "What is the best extended warranty company?" Result: CARCHEX appeared in the response with a stated eligibility of up to 25 years and 250,000 miles, citing Cars.com, NerdWallet, and ConsumerAffairs.

Google AI Mode / Brand Recommendation Prompt: "What is the best extended warranty company?" Result: CARCHEX appeared with a stated maximum eligibility of up to 10 years, citing CNBC, Cars.com, and a ConsumerAffairs California page, producing a direct conflict with the ChatGPT answer.

Copilot / Brand Recommendation Prompt: "What is the best extended warranty company?" Result: CARCHEX reached only 53.25% valid recommendation coverage on Copilot, the brand's weakest platform, with an average recommended rank of 3.0976.

Perplexity / Brand Recommendation Prompt: "What is the best extended warranty company?" Result: CARCHEX reached 90.7% valid recommendation coverage on Perplexity, the brand's strongest platform result, with a 2.7564 average recommended rank.

What CiteWorks Studio Would Do Next

Phase 1: AI Market Discovery Audit Map the prompts where CARCHEX reaches the top three but not first place, and identify which competitor occupies the first position in each of those responses.

Phase 2: Recommendation Readiness Plan Prioritize the Copilot coverage gap and the first-position displacement pattern, and define the specific prompt and page changes that move CARCHEX from listed option to chosen answer.

Phase 3: Owned Answer Layer Buildout Correct the eligibility framing on owned pages so that AI systems retrieve a single, consistent set of coverage limits rather than conflicting third-party figures.

Phase 4: Citation / Authority Layer Development Strengthen the third-party comparison and review pages that AI systems cite for CARCHEX, since the benchmark shows these sources drive both recommendation placement and the eligibility conflict.

Phase 5: Monthly AI Visibility and Recommendation Tracking Track CARCHEX coverage, top-three rate, rank-one rate, and eligibility framing accuracy month over month across all six platforms.

Why This Matters

Questions This Section Answers

  • What does the gap between CARCHEX's top-three rate and rank-one rate mean for buyers?
  • What specific correction work does the benchmark recommend next?

AI presence alone is not enough. CARCHEX is visible in 90.2% of qualified AI responses and reaches the top three in 65.4% of them, but it takes the first recommendation position in only 1.1%. A buyer who asks an AI system for the best auto warranty provider is likely to see CARCHEX named as an option, but unlikely to see it named as the answer. That is the difference between being on the shortlist and being the choice.

The next move is targeted correction of the prompt, page, and citation layers that shape the final recommendation. The eligibility conflict shows how quickly third-party sources can produce inconsistent framing, and the Copilot gap shows where coverage is thinnest. Both are addressable through specific, evidence-led work rather than broad visibility spending.

Sentiment Score

Sentiment Score = (positive mentions × 1 + neutral mentions × 0 + negative mentions × -1) / total mentions

For CARCHEX in October 2026, the calculation is (529 × 1 + 42 × 0 + 0 × -1) / 571, which produces a score of 0.9264.

This matters because unclassified mention counts are misleading. A brand with 571 mentions could look strong on raw volume alone, but that number does not distinguish between a positive recommendation, a neutral reference, and a cautionary mention. CARCHEX happens to have a clean profile with zero negative mentions, but the same 571 mentions would tell a very different story if a large share were cautionary.

Share of voice is a diagnostic metric, not a business KPI. A positive recommendation, a neutral reference, a cautionary mention, and a competitor-displaced mention are not equal in commercial terms. Counting all mentions as wins is bad measurement, and it hides the difference between a brand that is recommended and a brand that is merely listed. Classified sentiment is required before interpreting AI visibility, because it separates framing quality from raw presence.

Methodology

  1. This report is a benchmark-based analysis of CARCHEX AI recommendation visibility in the Auto Warranty category. It is not a client implementation case study and does not imply that CiteWorks Studio caused any benchmark outcome.
  2. The reporting month is October 2026. The benchmark series runs from a May 2026 baseline through October 2026.
  3. Six AI and search surface families were tracked: ChatGPT, Copilot, Gemini, Perplexity, AI Overviews, and AI Mode. All six produced qualified observations in October 2026.
  4. The October 2026 measurement began with 800 source prompt-surface observations and produced 633 qualified observations after qualification. The qualification funnel removed 60 irrelevant observations and 107 reserved observations.
  5. The competitor universe contains 12 tracked brands: American Dream Auto Protect, AutoProtect USA, CARCHEX, CarShield, Concord Auto Protect, Endurance, everything breaks, Olive, Omega Auto Care, Protect My Car, Select Auto Protect, and Toco Warranty.
  6. Three public high-intent clusters are defined for the category. Only the Brand Recommendation cluster (C01) produced qualified observations in October 2026. The Pricing and Value cluster and the Multi-Brand Comparison cluster held no qualified observations this month.
  7. Stage 0 observations retain the query, the AI or search surface, the answer, the brand outcome, recommendation placement, sentiment, and, where exposed, citations or attributable evidence sources.
  8. A mention is counted when a tracked brand appears in a qualified AI response, regardless of whether the response recommends the brand.
  9. A valid recommendation is counted when a brand appears in a recommendation-shaped answer that includes a valid, actionable recommendation. Negative, neutral, cautionary, comparison-anchor, and listed-only mentions are not counted as valid recommendations.
  10. Brand-level percentages use the 633 qualified observations as the public denominator, not the 800 raw prompt-surface observations.
  11. The May 2026 baseline used a different collection funnel without separate relevance stages, so raw collection volume is not directly comparable across the full series. Recommendation coverage rates remain comparable.
  12. Source presence in AI responses is evidence about the information environment, not automatically proof that a source caused a recommendation. The eligibility conflict documented in this report reflects how third-party comparison pages were synthesized differently across platforms.
