Q2 AI Visibility Market Strategy Report - Financial Technology and Banking Software

Q2 AI Market Strategy Report - Financial Technology and Banking Software

Answer Capsule

Q2 holds third place in the October 2026 Financial Technology and Banking Software AI visibility benchmark with 20.0% valid recommendation coverage, up 15.3 points from September 2026. The company is present in 28.9% of qualified observations but converts that presence into a valid recommendation in 20.0% of them, a materially stronger conversion pattern than its raw presence would suggest. Its clearest win is a 2.92 average recommended rank, the best placement quality among the three leading brands. Its clearest weakness is a 1.1% rank-one rate, meaning it is frequently shortlisted but rarely named as the single best option. The clearest opportunity is converting its strong placement quality into first-position recommendations across the Brand Recommendation cluster.

Executive Summary

Q2 enters October 2026 as the clear third-place brand in the Financial Technology and Banking Software benchmark, with 20.0% valid recommendation coverage. That places it 26.7 points behind Thought Machine at 46.7% and 42.2 points behind category leader Mambu at 62.2%. The gap to the top two is wide, but Q2's trajectory is the more important signal: it has now posted significant upward movement for three consecutive months, rising from 0.0% in July 2026 to 4.7% in September 2026 to 20.0% in October 2026.

The company's presence and recommendation profile is distinctive. Q2 was mentioned in 26 of 90 qualified observations, a 28.9% raw mention presence rate, and earned 18 valid recommendations. That means roughly 69% of the observations where Q2 appeared converted into a valid recommendation, a conversion pattern that is stronger than its overall presence rate suggests. Q2 is not being mentioned as a passing reference; when AI systems surface it, they tend to include it in a recommendation shortlist.

Q2's strongest signal is placement quality. Its average recommended rank of 2.92 is the best among the three leading brands, ahead of Mambu at 3.40 and Thought Machine at 3.86. When Q2 is recommended, it tends to appear near the top of the shortlist. Its top-three rate of 11.1% (10 observations) reflects this, and it held 1 rank-one recommendation in October 2026.

The clearest weakness is the gap between top-three placement and rank-one selection. Q2 converted 10 top-three placements into just 1 rank-one recommendation, a 1.1% rank-one rate. Mambu converted 29 top-three placements into 22 rank-one recommendations, a 24.4% rate. Thought Machine converted 24 top-three placements into 3 rank-one recommendations, a 3.3% rate. Q2 is being shortlisted but not selected as the single best option.

Sentiment is positive across the board. Q2 recorded 18 positive mentions, 8 neutral mentions, and 0 negative mentions, producing a net sentiment score of 0.6923. No negative framing was observed in any qualified observation. The company's framing quality is clean; the issue is recommendation conversion at the first-position level.

The strongest platform signal for Q2 is Google AI Overviews, where it recorded a 30.23% valid recommendation coverage rate, 13 valid recommendations, and a 2.30 average recommended rank. Google AI Mode also produced positive signal with a 15.0% coverage rate and 3 valid recommendations. ChatGPT, Copilot, Gemini, and Perplexity produced minimal or no recommendation signal for Q2 in October 2026.

The clearest platform gap is ChatGPT, where Q2 recorded 0 mentions across 8 observations. Copilot produced 1 mention with no valid recommendation credit. Gemini produced 0 mentions across 7 observations. These are platforms where Q2 has no public presence in the qualified set, and they represent the most direct path to closing the gap with Mambu and Thought Machine.

What Q2 Is Winning

Questions This Section Answers

  • Why is Q2's average recommended rank of 2.92 the best in the benchmark?
  • How does Q2's mention-to-recommendation conversion compare with Mambu and Thought Machine?
  • What does Q2's Google AI Overviews performance look like?

Q2's strongest win is placement quality. Its average recommended rank of 2.92 is the best in the benchmark among brands with rank-eligible recommendations, ahead of Mambu at 3.40 and Thought Machine at 3.86. When AI systems recommend Q2, they tend to place it near the top of the shortlist rather than at the bottom.

Q2's second win is conversion efficiency. The company converted 26 raw mentions into 18 valid recommendations, a conversion rate of roughly 69%. By comparison, Thought Machine converted 68 mentions into 42 valid recommendations, a rate of roughly 62%. Mambu converted 87 mentions into 56 valid recommendations, a rate of roughly 64%. Q2 is more efficient at converting presence into recommendation than either of the two brands ahead of it.

Q2's third win is sentiment quality. With 18 positive mentions, 8 neutral mentions, and 0 negative mentions, Q2 recorded a net sentiment score of 0.6923. No negative framing was observed in any qualified observation. The company's public evidence layer is producing clean, positive framing across the platforms where it appears.

Q2's fourth win is its Google AI Overviews performance. With a 30.23% valid recommendation coverage rate on that platform, Q2 is the third-strongest brand behind Mambu at 76.74% and Thought Machine at 53.49%. Its 2.30 average recommended rank on Google AI Overviews is the best among the three leading brands on that platform.

Where Q2 Has the Clearest AI Visibility Gaps

Questions This Section Answers

  • Why does Q2 convert so few top-three placements into rank-one recommendations?
  • On which platforms is Q2 completely absent from the recommendation-stage set?
  • What does the lack of qualified observations in the Pricing & Value and Multi-Brand Comparison clusters mean for Q2?

Q2's clearest gap is rank-one recommendation conversion. The company held 10 top-three placements in October 2026 but converted only 1 into a rank-one recommendation. Mambu converted 29 top-three placements into 22 rank-one recommendations. Thought Machine converted 24 top-three placements into 3 rank-one recommendations. Q2 is being shortlisted at a meaningful rate but is rarely selected as the single best option.

The second gap is platform coverage. Q2 recorded 0 mentions on ChatGPT across 8 observations, 0 mentions on Gemini across 7 observations, and 1 mention on Copilot across 8 observations with no valid recommendation credit. These are platforms where Q2 has no meaningful public presence in the qualified set. Mambu recorded 8 mentions on ChatGPT and 7 on Gemini. Thought Machine recorded 8 mentions on ChatGPT and 7 on Gemini. The gap on these platforms is not marginal; it is a complete absence of recommendation-stage visibility.

The third gap is cluster coverage. All 90 qualified observations in October 2026 fell into the Brand Recommendation cluster. Q2 has no qualified observations in the Pricing & Value or Multi-Brand Comparison clusters. This means the benchmark cannot yet show how Q2 performs in cost discussions or head-to-head comparisons, both of which are high-intent buyer scenarios. The absence of data is not evidence of weakness, but it is a gap in the public evidence layer.

The fourth gap is the distance to the top two. Q2's 20.0% coverage is 26.7 points behind Thought Machine and 42.2 points behind Mambu. While Q2's trajectory is positive, the absolute gap remains wide. Closing it will require both continued conversion improvement and expansion into platforms and clusters where Q2 currently has no presence.

Biggest Opportunity

Questions This Section Answers

  • What is the path for Q2 to convert its placement quality into rank-one recommendations?
  • Which platforms offer the most direct route to closing the gap with Mambu and Thought Machine?

Q2's biggest opportunity is converting its strong placement quality into rank-one recommendations. The company already achieves a 2.92 average recommended rank, the best in the benchmark, and a 69% conversion rate from mention to valid recommendation, also the best among the leading brands. The missing piece is first-position selection.

The path to rank-one recommendations runs through the Brand Recommendation cluster, where all 90 qualified observations currently sit. Q2 needs to strengthen the public evidence layer that AI systems retrieve when forming a single best recommendation. That means ensuring that the pages, sources, and citations AI systems rely on when answering questions like "What are the top banking software companies?" or "Which software is used in banks?" present Q2 as a leading option rather than a secondary one.

The platform dimension matters here. Google AI Overviews is already producing strong signal for Q2, with a 30.23% coverage rate and a 2.30 average recommended rank. ChatGPT, Gemini, and Copilot are producing little or no signal. Expanding Q2's presence on those platforms, particularly ChatGPT and Gemini where Mambu and Thought Machine both have meaningful visibility, is the most direct path to closing the rank-one gap.

Q2 sits third in the table by top-three rate, behind Mambu and Thought Machine and ahead of the remaining seven brands. Its rank-one rate of 1.11% is the clearest gap: Mambu converts top-three placements into rank-one recommendations at more than twenty times Q2's rate. Q2's average recommended rank of 2.92 is the best in the table, indicating that when it is recommended, it tends to appear near the top of the shortlist.

Prompt Evidence

Questions This Section Answers

  • What do Q2's results look like on Google AI Overviews and Google AI Mode?
  • What happens when ChatGPT and Gemini are asked about core banking software systems?

Google AI Overviews / Brand Recommendation Prompt: "What are the top banking software companies?" Result: Q2 was recommended with a 2.30 average recommended rank on Google AI Overviews, contributing to its 30.23% coverage rate on that platform.

ChatGPT / Brand Recommendation Prompt: "What are the most common core banking systems?" Result: Q2 recorded 0 mentions on ChatGPT across 8 observations, indicating no public presence in that platform's qualified set.

Gemini / Brand Recommendation Prompt: "Which software is used in banks?" Result: Q2 recorded 0 mentions on Gemini across 7 observations, a platform where Mambu and Thought Machine both have meaningful visibility.

What CiteWorks Studio Would Do Next

Phase 1: AI Market Discovery Audit Map the specific prompts, platforms, and sources where Q2 is mentioned but not recommended, and where competitors are recommended instead.

Phase 2: Recommendation Readiness Plan Identify the attributes, proof points, and positioning language that AI systems associate with rank-one recommendations in the Brand Recommendation cluster.

Phase 3: Owned Answer Layer Buildout Strengthen Q2's owned pages and content so they present clear, extractable answers to the high-intent questions where Q2 is currently shortlisted but not selected first.

Phase 4: Citation / Authority Layer Development Build the public evidence layer, including third-party sources, analyst references, and comparison pages, that AI systems retrieve when forming single best recommendations.

Phase 5: Monthly AI Visibility and Recommendation Tracking Track Q2's coverage, top-three rate, rank-one rate, and sentiment across all six platforms to measure progress against Mambu and Thought Machine.

Why This Matters

AI presence alone is not enough. Q2 is mentioned in 28.9% of qualified observations and recommended in 20.0% of them, but it is selected as the single best option in only 1.1%. That gap between shortlist and selection is where buyer decisions are formed. A buyer asking an AI assistant for the best banking software platform is not looking for a list of options; they are looking for a recommendation. Q2 is being included in the conversation but not winning it.

The next move is targeted correction of the prompt, page, and citation layers. Q2's placement quality is already strong, with a 2.92 average recommended rank. The opportunity is to convert that placement quality into first-position recommendations by strengthening the public evidence layer that AI systems rely on when forming single best recommendations. That means ensuring Q2's owned pages, third-party sources, and citation footprint present the company as a leading option, not just a viable one.

Sentiment Score

Sentiment Score = (positive mentions × 1 + neutral mentions × 0 + negative mentions × -1) / total mentions

Q2's sentiment score for October 2026 is 0.6923, calculated from 18 positive mentions, 8 neutral mentions, and 0 negative mentions across 26 total mentions.

This matters because unclassified mention counts are misleading. A positive recommendation, a neutral reference, a cautionary mention, and a competitor-displaced mention are not equal. Counting all mentions as wins is bad measurement. Q2's 26 mentions include 18 positive and 8 neutral, with no negative framing. That is a clean profile, but it does not by itself indicate recommendation strength. The sentiment score measures framing quality, not recommendation conversion. Q2's framing is positive; its rank-one conversion is the metric that needs attention.

Share of voice is a diagnostic metric, not a business KPI. Q2's 28.9% presence rate tells you how often it appears in AI responses. Its 20.0% valid recommendation coverage tells you how often it is actually recommended. Its 1.1% rank-one rate tells you how often it is selected first. These are three different signals, and they should not be collapsed into a single "AI visibility" metric. Classified sentiment is required before interpreting AI visibility, and so is the distinction between presence, recommendation, and placement.

Methodology

  1. This report is a benchmark-based analysis of Q2's AI recommendation visibility in the Financial Technology and Banking Software category for October 2026. It is not a client implementation case study.
  2. The reporting window is October 2026. The benchmark series began in July 2026 and includes monthly measurements from July through October 2026.
  3. Six AI platforms were tracked: ChatGPT, Copilot, Gemini, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews, and Google AI Mode. All six platforms had at least one qualified observation in October 2026.
  4. The October 2026 benchmark began with 800 prompt-surface observations and 695 unique questions. Of those, 798 mentioned a tracked brand or competitor, 95 were relevant to the vertical, and 90 qualified observations formed the public denominator.
  5. Ten companies were tracked: Mambu, Thought Machine, Q2, Avaloq, Azentio Software, SAP Fioneer, Bantotal, Silverlake Axis, Technisys, and Tietoevry Banking.
  6. Three buyer-intent clusters were defined: Brand Recommendation (C01), Vendor Comparisons (C02), and Pricing & Cost (C03). Only C01 had sufficient coverage in October 2026, with 90 qualified observations. C02 and C03 had no qualified observations.
  7. Stage 0 extraction retained the query, AI/search surface, answer, brand outcome, recommendation placement, sentiment, and, where exposed, citations or attributable evidence sources for each observation.
  8. A mention is counted when a brand appears in an AI response, whether or not it is recommended. Q2 recorded 26 mentions in October 2026.
  9. A valid recommendation is counted when a brand appears in a recommendation shortlist with a positive or neutral sentiment classification. Q2 recorded 18 valid recommendations in October 2026.
  10. Top-three rate measures the share of qualified observations where a brand appears among the top three recommended options. Rank-one rate measures the share where a brand is recommended as the single best option. Average recommended rank covers rank-eligible recommendations only.
  11. The public benchmark does not measure market share, sales attribution, organic-search ranking, social mention volume, private or sponsored channels, or causality from metric movement alone. No metric movement in this benchmark should be read as causal on its own.
  12. All percentages are calculated within the 90 qualified observations, not the raw 800 prompt-surface runs. The qualified denominator is narrower than the raw collection by design.
