Executive Summary

The way employers and job seekers discover recruitment platforms is changing.

An employer may still search Google for the best place to advertise a job. Increasingly, that same employer may ask an AI assistant which recruiting platform to use. Job seekers follow a similar path, using search engines and AI-generated recommendations to compare job boards and decide where to apply.

In both environments, the answer is shaped by more than a brand’s own website. Third-party comparisons, public discussions, ranked pages, and the sources cited by AI systems all influence which companies enter the consideration set.

From October 2025 through July 2026, CiteWorks Studio worked with ZipRecruiter to strengthen the brand’s presence across these search and recommendation environments.

The program focused on high-intent recruitment topics, the third-party pages already influencing those topics, and the measurable signals that indicate whether a brand is becoming more visible: mentions, cited pages, AI share of voice, page-one rankings, and citations inside AI-generated answers.

Over the 10-month reporting period:

  • ZipRecruiter’s AI share of voice increased from 10.4% to 17.9%
  • Total tracked AI mentions increased from 20,004 to 28,343
  • Total pages cited in the tracked AI dataset increased from 181,908 to 229,137
  • Campaign-influenced keyword visibility more than doubled
  • AI citation appearances associated with influenced pages increased by 251%

The result was a stronger and more measurable presence at the point where employers and job seekers were comparing recruitment platforms.

What Changed in Recruitment Discovery

Recruitment is a comparison-heavy category.

Employers evaluate reach, candidate quality, cost, speed, ease of use, and the suitability of different platforms for different roles. Job seekers compare the number and quality of listings, application experience, employer coverage, and the likelihood of finding relevant work.

Historically, those comparisons happened primarily through search results, review sites, editorial lists, community discussions, and the platforms’ own websites.

AI-generated answers now add another decision layer.

Questions such as “What are the top job boards?” or “What is the best website to advertise a job?” can produce a synthesized response before the user visits a traditional search result. The brands named in that response—and the sources used to support it—can shape the buyer’s shortlist early in the journey.

That makes third-party source visibility increasingly important.

Ranking a brand-owned page remains valuable, but it does not provide the full picture. A company can also benefit when credible external pages mention it accurately, rank prominently, and become sources for AI-generated answers.

CiteWorks Studio refers to this broader source environment as a brand’s citation architecture: the network of public pages, discussions, comparisons, and references that helps search engines and AI systems understand where a company belongs within its category.

The Visibility Challenge

ZipRecruiter was competing in a category that included established platforms such as Indeed, LinkedIn, Glassdoor, Monster, and CareerBuilder.

The opportunity was not simply to increase branded visibility. It was to strengthen ZipRecruiter’s presence around category-level questions being asked before a buyer had chosen a platform.

The campaign therefore focused on three connected objectives:

  1. Increase visibility around high-intent recruitment and job-search themes
  2. Expand the number and persistence of third-party pages mentioning ZipRecruiter
  3. Improve the brand’s presence within the sources and answers tracked across search and AI environments

The goal was not merely to generate more mentions. It was to build a stronger, measurable presence where recommendations were being formed.

What CiteWorks Studio Did

1. Mapped the Search and AI Recommendation Environment

CiteWorks Studio began by identifying the queries and prompt themes most closely connected to recruitment-platform selection.

These included questions such as:

  • What are the top job boards?
  • What are the best apps to apply for jobs?
  • What is the best website to advertise for jobs?

The analysis considered where ZipRecruiter appeared, which competitors were being surfaced, which third-party pages were ranking, and which sources were being cited in AI-generated answers.

This created a baseline across several distinct measures:

  • AI share of voice
  • Brand mentions
  • Cited pages
  • Influenced keyword visibility
  • AI citation appearances
  • Unique campaign-influenced pages earning citations

Keeping these measures separate was important. A brand mention is not the same as a recommendation, and a citation appearance is not the same as a unique cited page.

2. Built a Persistent Third-Party Visibility Layer

The campaign worked across 962 third-party posts connected to relevant recruitment and job-search conversations.

The focus was not simply on creating a large number of placements. CiteWorks Studio monitored whether those pages remained accessible and whether they went on to produce measurable search or AI visibility.

By July 2026:

  • 840 posts remained live, representing 87.3% of the total engaged
  • 407 pages ranked in Google’s top 10, representing 42.3% of the total
  • 83 unique influenced pages earned an AI citation, representing 8.6% of the total

This created a persistent source layer around ZipRecruiter: a body of public pages capable of influencing both traditional search results and AI-generated responses.

3. Measured, Refined, and Scaled What Produced Visibility

CiteWorks Studio tracked search and AI performance as separate but connected systems.

Search measurement focused on whether campaign-influenced pages were ranking and how much relevant keyword visibility those pages were generating.

AI measurement focused on whether influenced pages were being cited, how frequently ZipRecruiter appeared across tracked answers, and how the brand’s share of voice changed within the competitive set.

Performance was reviewed over time so that activity could be concentrated around the topics and source environments producing the strongest signals.

As of July 2026, the highest-performing prompt themes included:

  1. Top job boards — approximately 59,400 in reported monthly prompt volume across influenced pages
  2. Apps to apply for jobs
  3. What is the best website to advertise for jobs?

These themes represented commercially meaningful discovery moments on both sides of the ZipRecruiter marketplace: where job seekers should apply and where employers should advertise.

The Value-Creation Journey

The campaign’s observed visibility path can be summarized as:

962 posts engaged → 840 still live → 407 ranking on page one → 83 unique AI-cited pages → $1.11M in modeled visibility value

Each stage represented a more meaningful outcome than placement volume alone.

A live page created the potential to be discovered. A page-one ranking made that page more visible in traditional search. An AI citation showed that an influenced source had become part of a tracked AI answer.

Together, these signals provided a clearer view of whether the campaign was building a durable search and citation footprint.

AI Share of Voice Increased by 72.1%

ZipRecruiter’s AI share of voice increased from 10.4% in October 2025 to 17.9% in July 2026.

That was a gain of 7.5 percentage points, or a 72.1% relative increase, within the tracked prompt and competitive environment.

Share of voice is particularly useful in a category such as recruitment because it measures visibility relative to other brands competing for the same recommendation-stage questions.

The result indicates that ZipRecruiter occupied a materially larger portion of the tracked AI conversation by the end of the campaign period.

Total AI Mentions Increased by 41.7%

Total tracked mentions of ZipRecruiter increased from 20,004 in October 2025 to 28,343 in July 2026.

That represented:

  • 8,339 additional mentions
  • A 41.7% increase

Mentions alone do not prove that a brand was recommended first or framed positively. They do, however, show that ZipRecruiter was appearing more frequently within the AI response environment covered by the dataset.

Considered alongside the increase in share of voice, cited pages, and campaign-influenced citations, the mention growth provides further evidence of an expanding AI visibility footprint.

Pages Cited Increased by 26.0%

The number of pages cited in the broader tracked AI dataset increased from 181,908 to 229,137 between October 2025 and July 2026.

That represented:

  • 47,229 additional cited pages
  • A 26.0% increase

This broader metric is distinct from the 83 unique campaign-influenced pages that earned AI citations.

The site-wide cited-page count describes the larger AI source environment associated with ZipRecruiter. The 83-page figure isolates unique pages connected to CiteWorks Studio campaign activity that received at least one tracked citation.

Presenting both figures makes the scope of the evidence clear.

Influenced Search Visibility More Than Doubled

Between February and July 2026, campaign-influenced keyword visibility increased from 8,995 to 18,132.

That was:

  • A net increase of 9,137
  • A 101.6% lift

By July, 407 unique pages mentioning ZipRecruiter ranked in Google positions 1–10.

This mattered for more than traditional organic discovery. Pages that rank prominently are also more likely to be accessible, discoverable, and evaluated as potential sources within AI-driven research and answer environments.

The result showed that the campaign was not treating search visibility and AI visibility as unrelated channels. It was building a source footprint capable of contributing to both.

AI Citations of Influenced Pages Increased by 251%

During the same February-to-July period, AI citation appearances associated with campaign-influenced pages increased from 261 to 916.

That represented:

  • 655 additional citation appearances
  • A 251% increase

By July 2026, 83 unique influenced pages had earned at least one AI citation.

The distinction is important:

  • 916 represents citation appearances recorded across tracked answers
  • 83 represents the number of unique campaign-influenced pages receiving those citations

This indicates that a smaller group of influenced pages was not merely cited once. Some pages were being used repeatedly across the tracked AI environment.

Broader Domain Signals Supported the Direction of Travel

Ahrefs Site Explorer provided an independent, site-wide view of ZipRecruiter’s broader organic and AI visibility.

By July 2026, Ahrefs reported:

  • 158,000 AI Overview responses, an increase of 98,700
  • 167,000 pages appearing in AI Overviews, an increase of 121,000
  • 8,500 recorded ChatGPT responses across 14,600 pages
  • 7,400 Gemini responses, an increase of 2,000
  • 7,600 pages appearing in Gemini, an increase of 888
  • 379,000 keywords ranking in Google’s top three, an increase of 18,600
  • $5.4 million in estimated organic traffic value, an increase of $317,000

These figures describe the performance of the broader ZipRecruiter domain. They are supporting context and should not be attributed solely to CiteWorks Studio’s campaign activity.

Their value is directional: the independent domain-wide data moved in the same general direction as the campaign-influenced search and AI visibility metrics.

From Visibility to Estimated Commercial Value

As of July 2026, CiteWorks Studio’s in-house measurement platform estimated:

Value category

Modeled value

Search Influence Value

$949.94K

AI Visibility Value

$162.11K

Combined estimated visibility value

$1.11M

The model estimates what comparable visibility could cost if purchased through paid advertising channels.

It is an equivalent visibility-cost estimate. It does not represent revenue, profit, pipeline, leads, conversions, or directly attributed customer acquisition.

That distinction is important. The value model provides commercial context for the visibility created without presenting a proxy metric as recognized business revenue.

Measurement and Methodology

CiteWorks Studio used two complementary data scopes.

Campaign-Influenced Measurement

CiteWorks Studio’s in-house analytics tracked activity associated with the campaign, including:

  • Engaged and live third-party posts
  • Influenced pages and keywords
  • Google position-one-to-10 visibility
  • AI citation appearances
  • Unique influenced pages earning AI citations
  • Prompt themes
  • Search Influence Value
  • AI Visibility Value

The influenced keyword and AI citation trend comparisons cover February through July 2026.

Broader AI and Domain Measurement

Ahrefs Brand Radar and Site Explorer supplied broader visibility context, including:

  • AI share of voice
  • Total tracked mentions
  • Total pages cited
  • AI Overview visibility
  • ChatGPT visibility
  • Gemini visibility
  • Top-three organic keyword visibility
  • Estimated organic traffic value

The primary share-of-voice, mention, and cited-page comparisons cover October 2025 through July 2026.

Metric Definitions

AI share of voice: ZipRecruiter’s portion of the tracked AI visibility environment relative to the defined competitor and prompt set.

Total AI mentions: The source-reported number of tracked appearances of ZipRecruiter across the measured AI response dataset.

Total pages cited: The source-reported page-citation count within the broader tracked AI dataset. It should not be interpreted as a unique-page count unless the source platform defines it that way.

AI citations of influenced pages: Citation appearances associated with pages included in the campaign-influenced dataset.

Unique AI-cited pages: Campaign-influenced pages that earned at least one tracked AI citation.

Influenced keyword visibility: Keyword visibility associated with pages monitored as part of CiteWorks Studio campaign activity.

Methodological Limitations

This case study reports observed changes during the campaign period. It is not a controlled experiment.

Search rankings and AI-generated answers can also be affected by changes to ZipRecruiter’s website, competitor activity, news coverage, model updates, search-engine updates, changes to third-party pages, and changes within the underlying measurement platforms.

For that reason, the results are described as campaign-influenced or as broader supporting signals rather than being presented as proof that every site-wide change was caused exclusively by CiteWorks Studio.

AI visibility metrics are also dependent on the prompts, competitive set, geographic settings, models, and source indexes used by the measurement provider. Like search rankings, they can fluctuate over time.

The Outcome

Over 10 months, CiteWorks Studio helped ZipRecruiter build a stronger presence across two connected discovery systems: traditional search and AI-generated recommendations.

The campaign produced measurable gains at several levels:

  • 72.1% relative increase in AI share of voice
  • 41.7% increase in total tracked AI mentions
  • 26.0% increase in total pages cited
  • 101.6% increase in campaign-influenced keyword visibility
  • 251% increase in AI citation appearances associated with influenced pages
  • 407 unique pages ranking in Google’s top 10
  • 83 unique campaign-influenced pages earning AI citations
  • $1.11 million in combined modeled visibility value

More importantly, the campaign established a repeatable way to evaluate whether third-party activity was producing lasting visibility.

CiteWorks Studio did not stop at counting placements. It measured whether pages stayed live, ranked prominently, became sources in AI-generated answers, and strengthened ZipRecruiter’s presence around high-intent recruitment questions.

That created a more durable foundation for discovery as employers and job seekers increasingly move between Google results, AI summaries, and conversational recommendations.
