Executive Summary
Zendesk holds a strong position in AI-generated recommendations for the chatbot category, ranking third in monthly AI Authority Value at $362,103 behind LiveChat at $586,476 and Tidio at $410,264. The benchmark shows Zendesk appears in 44.0% of all AI responses across six platforms, the highest raw mention presence rate in the category, and earns valid recommendations in 19.7% of observations, the highest recommendation coverage rate among all tracked brands.
The most significant finding is Zendesk's Top 1 recommendation rate of 10.0%, the highest in the category, combined with an average recommended rank of 2.14. When Zendesk is recommended, it frequently appears as the first option. The brand achieves a Top 3 rate of 15.2%, supported by strong performance on Copilot and ChatGPT.
Zendesk's strongest platform signal is on Copilot, where it earns an AI Authority Value of $197,859, representing 54.6% of its total monthly value. On Gemini, Zendesk achieves a net sentiment score of 0.70, the highest positive framing rate across any platform for this brand. The weakest platform signal is on Google AI Overviews, where Zendesk appears in 35.3% of responses but earns valid recommendations in only 8.3% of observations, with a net sentiment score of 0.26.
The Pricing cluster represents the clearest strategic gap. Zendesk earns an AI Authority Value of $44,653 in this decision-stage cluster, compared to Tidio at $131,598 and LiveChat at $121,533. Despite having the highest Top 1 rate in the category overall, Zendesk underperforms at the point where buyer intent is highest and where the commercial intent multiplier is strongest.
Across 1,083 observations, Zendesk accumulates 272 positive mentions, 204 neutral mentions, and 1 negative mention, yielding a net sentiment score of 0.57. The brand is framed positively when mentioned, but the gap between mention presence and recommendation conversion on certain platforms points to a public evidence layer that has room to improve.
What Zendesk Is Winning
Highest recommendation coverage rate in the category. Zendesk earns valid recommendations in 19.7% of all observations, the highest rate among the ten tracked brands. When AI systems construct responses that include shortlists or ranked suggestions, Zendesk is more likely than any competitor to be included.
Highest Top 1 recommendation rate. Zendesk achieves a Top 1 rate of 10.0%, meaning it appears as the first recommended option in one out of every ten observations across all six platforms. This is the strongest rank-one performance in the category and reflects consistent trust signals in AI systems.
Strongest Copilot performance by value. Zendesk earns an AI Authority Value of $197,859 on Copilot, representing 54.6% of its total monthly value. On this platform, Zendesk achieves a Top 3 rate of 21.7% and valid recommendation coverage of 26.2%, the highest platform-specific coverage for the brand.
Strong Discovery cluster positioning. In the awareness-stage Discovery cluster, Zendesk earns an AI Authority Value of $204,643, ranking second behind LiveChat. This cluster represents buyers asking AI systems for general recommendations, and Zendesk is consistently positioned as a top option at that entry point.
High positive framing rate. Zendesk has a positive visibility rate of 25.1%, meaning more than one in four observations result in positive framing. This is the second highest positive rate in the category and indicates that the public evidence quality supporting Zendesk is strong relative to peers.
Where Zendesk Has the Clearest AI Visibility Gaps
Google AI Overviews underperformance. Zendesk appears in 35.3% of Google AI Overviews responses but earns valid recommendations in only 8.3% of those observations. The net sentiment score on this platform is 0.26, the lowest across all six platforms for Zendesk. When Google AI Overviews mentions Zendesk, the framing tends toward neutral or mixed context rather than a clear recommendation. This is a meaningful gap given the volume of buyer traffic this platform influences.
Pricing cluster weakness. In the decision-stage Pricing cluster, Zendesk ranks third with an AI Authority Value of $44,653, compared to Tidio at $131,598 and LiveChat at $121,533. This cluster carries the highest commercial intent multiplier at 1.5. Zendesk is losing influence at the point where buyers are closest to a purchase decision, and Tidio outperforms it by nearly three times on this cluster.
Comparison cluster displacement. In the consideration-stage Comparison cluster, Zendesk ranks third with an AI Authority Value of $112,807, behind Tidio at $164,641 and LiveChat at $128,153. Zendesk is being displaced by Tidio in the prompts where buyers are actively evaluating platforms against each other, the second most commercially sensitive cluster in the dataset.
Neutral mention volume relative to recommendation conversion. Zendesk has 204 neutral mentions out of 477 total mentions, a neutral visibility rate of 18.8%. Neutral mentions carry no recommendation credit. Converting a portion of these neutral references into positive, shortlist-quality appearances would meaningfully increase recommendation conversion without requiring a large increase in overall mention volume.
Biggest Opportunity
The clearest opportunity for Zendesk is converting its category-leading Discovery and recommendation strength into Pricing cluster performance. Zendesk leads in Top 1 rate and recommendation coverage overall, which means AI systems already treat it as a credible source. The barrier is the public evidence layer that supports pricing and cost evaluation prompts. Buyers who ask AI systems about chatbot costs are encountering Tidio and LiveChat as top recommendations, not Zendesk. Strengthening the retrievable, structured sources that AI systems rely on when constructing pricing responses, including pricing page clarity, third-party cost comparisons, and editorial reviews that address value and cost directly, would bring Zendesk's Pricing cluster performance in line with its category standing. This cluster carries the highest commercial intent multiplier at 1.5, so the modeled return on improvement here is larger than gains in any other cluster.
Prompt Evidence
Copilot / Discovery Prompt: "What is the best customer messaging and support platform?" Result: Zendesk appeared as a top recommendation with positive framing, earning rank-one placement in multiple observations and contributing the largest share of its total AI Authority Value.
Google AI Overviews / Pricing Prompt: "How much does Zendesk cost for chatbot features?" Result: Zendesk appeared in the response but with neutral framing, often listed alongside competitor pricing without a clear recommendation, reflecting the weakest platform-specific sentiment score in the dataset at 0.26.
Gemini / Comparison Prompt: "Compare Zendesk vs Intercom for customer support" Result: Zendesk was included with positive framing and earned the highest sentiment score on Gemini at 0.70, though Tidio and LiveChat appeared more frequently as top recommendations in the broader Comparison cluster.
ChatGPT / Discovery Prompt: "What are the best chatbot platforms for small business?" Result: Zendesk achieved a Top 1 rate of 20.2% on ChatGPT, its highest platform-specific rank-one rate, indicating strong recommendation power on this platform at the awareness stage.
What CiteWorks Studio Would Do Next
Phase 1: AI Market Discovery Audit Map Zendesk's full recommendation profile across all six platforms, identifying the specific prompts and clusters where the gap between mention presence and recommendation conversion is widest and where competitor displacement is occurring.
Phase 2: Recommendation Readiness Plan Prioritize the Pricing and Comparison clusters, diagnosing the source and evidence gaps that prevent AI systems from recommending Zendesk as clearly in decision-stage and consideration-stage prompts as they do in discovery prompts.
Phase 3: Owned Answer Layer Buildout Develop structured pricing content, cost comparison pages, and feature documentation that AI systems can retrieve and synthesize when constructing responses to high-intent Pricing and Comparison prompts.
Phase 4: Citation / Authority Layer Development Strengthen third-party review coverage, editorial comparisons, and community discussion presence so that AI systems have more retrievable, consistent, and authoritative source material to draw on when framing Zendesk in competitive contexts.
Phase 5: Monthly AI Visibility and Recommendation Tracking Monitor Zendesk's recommendation coverage, Top 3 rate, Top 1 rate, and sentiment across all six platforms monthly to measure progress, identify emerging gaps, and track competitor movement in the Pricing and Comparison clusters.
Why This Matters
AI systems are becoming the first stop for buyers evaluating chatbot and customer messaging platforms. Zendesk has stronger recommendation power than any tracked competitor on the metrics that matter most, but the gap between its Discovery cluster performance and Pricing cluster performance means it is losing influence at the point where buyers are closest to a decision. Every buyer who asks an AI system about chatbot pricing and encounters Tidio or LiveChat as the top recommendation is a buyer Zendesk does not appear to be reaching at that moment.
Presence alone is not enough. Zendesk appears in 44.0% of all AI responses, the highest raw mention presence in the category, but recommendation conversion varies significantly by platform and cluster. The brands that invest in the prompt, page, and citation layers that AI systems rely on will capture buyer attention at the decision moment. Zendesk's opportunity is to close the distance between where it is seen and where it is chosen.

Sentiment Score
Sentiment Score = (272 positive x 1 + 204 neutral x 0 + 1 negative x -1) / 477 total mentions = 0.57
This score means Zendesk carries positive weighted framing in 57% of its classified mentions. Unclassified mention counts are misleading because they treat neutral references, cautionary mentions, and competitor-displaced appearances as equal to positive recommendations. Share of voice is a diagnostic metric, not a business KPI. A positive recommendation, a neutral reference, a cautionary mention, and a mention where a competitor is recommended instead are not equal in commercial terms. Counting all mentions as wins is bad measurement. Classified sentiment is required before interpreting AI visibility in any meaningful way.

Methodology
- Report orientation. This is an AI Company Market Strategy Report based on benchmark data from the LLM Authority Index. It reflects publicly observable AI recommendation patterns and is not a client implementation case study. CiteWorks Studio did not cause the outcomes described.
- Reporting window. Data was collected in June 2026, with a snapshot date of June 18, 2026. This is a point-in-time benchmark and does not reflect model or source changes that occur after that date.
- Platforms tracked. ChatGPT, Copilot, Gemini, Google AI Mode, Google AI Overviews, and Perplexity. Platform-specific findings appear only where platform-level data is present in the dataset.
- Observations analyzed. 1,083 AI observations were analyzed across three public high-intent clusters. Unique prompt count was not provided in the public version of the dataset.
- Competitor universe. Ten brands were tracked: Ada, Chatfuel, Drift, Freshchat, Intercom, Landbot, LiveChat, ManyChat, Tidio, and Zendesk. This universe covers major platforms but is not a full market census.
- Public clusters used. Three clusters are reported publicly: Discovery (awareness-stage), Comparison (consideration-stage), and Pricing (decision-stage). The full LLM Authority Index dataset includes ten clusters; the remaining seven are not reflected in this public report.
- Stage 0 role. Stage 0 extraction was used to identify raw AI outputs, surface mention and framing patterns, and inform the platform-level and cluster-level analysis prior to structured scoring.
- Definition of a mention. A mention means the brand appeared in an AI-generated response, regardless of sentiment, framing, or ranking position.
- Definition of a valid recommendation. A valid recommendation is a positive, shortlist-quality appearance or ranked recommendation that earns recommendation credit in the LLM Authority Index scoring model. Neutral references, cautionary mentions, and competitor-anchor appearances do not receive valid recommendation credit.
- Modeled value. Monthly AI Authority Value, AI Recommendation Value, and AI Visibility Assist Value are modeled benchmark estimates based on commercial intent modeling and volume assumptions. They are not revenue, pipeline, or booked demand figures and should not be interpreted as such.
- Ranking interpretation. Average recommended rank reflects position only among observations where a valid recommendation was recorded. It does not represent an average across all mentions.
- Limitations. AI outputs vary with model updates, retrieval changes, and source availability. This report covers 3 of 10 total clusters in the full LLM Authority Index dataset. Findings reflect observable public patterns and may not capture the full competitive picture. Ahrefs and traditional search data were not supplied for this report and are not reflected in the findings.
