Answer Capsule

Joseph Studios holds a marginal position in AI-generated recommendations for digital marketing agencies, with valid recommendation coverage of just 1.28% in September 2026. The brand appears in AI answers at a raw mention presence rate of 1.44%, meaning it is surfaced occasionally but rarely converted into a recommendation. Its strongest signal is a perfect positive sentiment score among its small mention base, yet it holds no meaningful top-three presence and is absent from most high-intent discovery prompts. The clearest opportunity lies in converting its narrow reference footprint into recommendation coverage across the discovery prompts where competitors dominate.

Executive Summary

Joseph Studios holds a minimal but measurable presence in AI-generated recommendations for digital marketing agencies. The September 2026 benchmark shows the brand with 9 total mentions across 624 qualified observations, a raw mention presence rate of 1.44%. Of those mentions, 8 registered as valid recommendations, producing a valid recommendation coverage of 1.28%. The brand received no negative mentions in the dataset, and its net sentiment score of 0.8889 reflects a small base of positive framing.

The strongest cluster for Joseph Studios is the Best Marketing Agency Discovery cluster, which accounts for all qualified observations in the current public dataset. Within that cluster, the brand appears in prompts such as "google ads," "seo agency," "digital marketing company," and "social media agency." However, the brand's presence is concentrated in a narrow set of prompts, and it does not appear in comparison or pricing clusters, which have no public signal in this benchmark.

The strongest platform signal for Joseph Studios comes from Google AI Mode, where the brand recorded 7 of its 9 total mentions and all 8 of its valid recommendations. Google AI Overviews contributed 1 additional mention and 1 valid recommendation. The brand has no presence on ChatGPT, Copilot, Gemini, or Perplexity, which represents a significant platform gap given that competitors hold recommendation coverage across those surfaces.

The clearest platform gap is the absence of Joseph Studios from ChatGPT, Copilot, Gemini, and Perplexity entirely. The clearest cluster gap is the lack of any presence in comparison or evaluation prompts, though the public benchmark does not currently capture those buyer-intent classes. The brand's average recommended rank of 3.71 when it is recommended suggests that when AI systems do surface Joseph Studios, it tends to appear lower in the recommendation order rather than as a first-choice option.

What Joseph Studios Is Winning

Questions This Section Answers

  • Where does Joseph Studios hold its strongest AI recommendation ground despite its small presence?
  • What does the brand's sentiment record indicate about how AI systems frame it?

Joseph Studios holds a perfect positive framing record within its small mention base. The brand recorded 8 positive mentions and 1 neutral mention, with zero negative mentions across the September 2026 dataset. Its net sentiment score of 0.8889 indicates that when AI systems reference the brand, they do so in a favorable or neutral context rather than a cautionary one.

The brand also shows a narrow but meaningful recommendation pocket in Google AI Mode. All 8 of its valid recommendations came from that platform, with 7 of its 9 total mentions. This suggests that Google AI Mode is the one surface where Joseph Studios has established some degree of recommendation recognition, even if the volume is small.

Joseph Studios also recorded a modest gain in valid recommendation coverage since the July 2026 baseline, moving from 1.2% to 1.3%. While this movement is within normal month-to-month variation, it is one of only two brands in the tracked field to post any upward movement over the three-month series.

Where Joseph Studios Has the Clearest AI Visibility Gaps

Questions This Section Answers

  • Which AI platforms show no presence at all for Joseph Studios?
  • How does the brand's average recommended rank of 3.71 affect its visibility to buyers?

The most significant gap for Joseph Studios is the absence of any presence on four of the six tracked AI platforms. ChatGPT, Copilot, Gemini, and Perplexity account for no Joseph Studios mentions in the September 2026 dataset. Competitors such as SmartSites hold recommendation coverage across all six platforms, including a 56.94% valid recommendation coverage on ChatGPT and a 51.32% coverage on Copilot.

Joseph Studios also shows weak recommendation conversion relative to its mention base. The brand appears in 9 mentions but converts only 8 of those into valid recommendations, and only 2 of those register as top-three placements. Its rank-one rate of 0.16% means the brand is almost never the first-choice recommendation when AI systems answer discovery prompts.

The brand's average recommended rank of 3.71 further illustrates the placement problem. When Joseph Studios is recommended, it tends to appear in the fourth position or lower, which places it outside the top-three window where buyers most often focus their attention. By comparison, M16 Marketing holds an average recommended rank of 1.67, and LYFE Marketing holds 2.49, both of which place those brands more prominently in recommendation answers.

Biggest Opportunity

Questions This Section Answers

  • What is the clearest path for Joseph Studios to expand beyond Google AI Mode?
  • Why is this a discovery-to-recommendation conversion problem rather than a pure visibility problem?

The clearest opportunity for Joseph Studios is converting its Google AI Mode recommendation pocket into broader platform coverage. The brand has demonstrated that AI systems will recommend it in at least one surface, which means the underlying evidence layer is not entirely absent. The path forward is to identify which prompts and source materials drive those Google AI Mode recommendations and replicate that pattern across ChatGPT, Perplexity, and other surfaces where the brand currently has no presence.

This is a discovery-to-recommendation conversion problem rather than a pure visibility problem. Joseph Studios needs to move from being occasionally referenced to being consistently recommended in the high-intent discovery prompts where competitors currently dominate the answer set.

What CiteWorks Studio Would Do Next

Phase 1: AI Market Discovery Audit Map the specific prompts and source materials that drive Joseph Studios' Google AI Mode recommendations and identify which high-intent prompts return no brand presence.

Phase 2: Recommendation Readiness Plan Build a prompt-level strategy targeting the discovery queries where the brand has partial presence and the platform surfaces where it is entirely absent.

Phase 3: Owned Answer Layer Buildout Develop owned content that answers the specific service and capability questions AI systems use when forming agency recommendations, focused on the service lines where Joseph Studios holds demonstrable expertise.

Phase 4: Citation / Authority Layer Development Strengthen the public evidence layer that AI systems can retrieve and synthesize, prioritizing sources that align with the prompts where competitors currently dominate.

Phase 5: Monthly AI Visibility and Recommendation Tracking Track monthly changes in mention presence, valid recommendation coverage, top-three rate, and platform distribution to measure whether the brand is converting reference presence into recommendation coverage.

Why This Matters

AI-generated recommendations are becoming the default answer format in the digital marketing agency category. Nearly half of all qualified AI answers in September 2026 took the form of a named brand recommendation, which means the buyer shortlist is increasingly being formed inside AI systems before a human sales conversation ever begins.

For Joseph Studios, presence alone is not enough. The brand needs to be recommended, and recommended prominently, in the prompts where buyers are actively seeking agency options. The next move is a targeted correction of the prompt, page, and citation layers that determine whether AI systems choose Joseph Studios or a competitor when a buyer asks for a recommendation.

Sentiment Score

Sentiment Score = (positive mentions × 1 + neutral mentions × 0 + negative mentions × -1) / total mentions

For Joseph Studios, the calculation is (8 × 1 + 1 × 0 + 0 × -1) / 9, producing a net sentiment score of 0.8889.

This score matters because unclassified mention counts are misleading. A raw mention total of 9 tells you nothing about whether those mentions framed the brand positively, neutrally, or negatively. Share of voice is a diagnostic metric, not a business KPI. A positive recommendation, a neutral reference, a cautionary mention, and a competitor-displaced mention are not equal outcomes, and counting all mentions as wins is bad measurement. Classified sentiment is required before interpreting AI visibility, because the same mention count can represent very different recommendation realities.

Methodology

  1. This report is a benchmark-based analysis of how AI search surfaces recommend digital marketing agencies, derived from the LLM Authority Index AI Market Discovery Index public dataset for September 2026. It is not a client implementation case study.
  2. The reporting window is September 2026, with comparison references to the July 2026 and August 2026 benchmark series where relevant.
  3. Six AI surface families were tracked: ChatGPT, Copilot, Gemini, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews, and Google AI Mode.
  4. The benchmark began with 733 prompt-surface observations and 500 unique questions, of which 673 were relevant and 60 were irrelevant. After qualification, 624 observations formed the public denominator for all metrics.
  5. The competitor universe includes 7 tracked brands: SmartSites, LYFE Marketing, Cardinal Digital Marketing, M16 Marketing, Joseph Studios, AIS Media, and Grater Digital.
  6. All qualified observations in the current public dataset fell into the Best Marketing Agency Discovery cluster, which maps to the Brand Recommendation buyer-intent class. Pricing, value, and comparison clusters had no public signal.
  7. Stage 0 extraction captured prompt-level observations including the query, AI surface, answer, brand outcome, recommendation placement, sentiment, and citations where exposed.
  8. A mention is defined as any appearance of a tracked brand within a qualified observation, regardless of whether the brand is recommended.
  9. A valid recommendation is defined as a positive mention in which the brand is explicitly recommended or shortlisted as an option. Neutral references, cautionary mentions, and competitor-displaced mentions do not count as valid recommendations.
  10. Small-count movement is a limitation. Joseph Studios operates on 9 mentions and 8 valid recommendations, so percentage movements can shift with a handful of new observations.
  11. The three-month series is not yet long enough to treat any movement as an established trend, and month-over-month movement identifies changes worth investigating rather than proven causes.
  12. Source presence in the evidence layer is not automatically proof that a source caused a recommendation outcome.

Understanding AI search visibility.

AI search experiences create answers by pulling information from many places online and summarizing it into a single response.

What Is AI Citation Intelligence?
AI citation intelligence is the process of measuring where AI platforms source their information and how frequently a brand is mentioned or referenced in AI-generated responses. Because LLMs synthesize across multiple sources, the sites and brands that appear repeatedly tend to influence how a topic or company is framed. This practice focuses on identifying which sources shape AI outputs and tracking brand visibility across different AI systems.
What Is Citation Architecture?
Citation architecture describes the set of sources that consistently inform how AI systems talk about a brand, product, or topic. LLMs draw from websites, articles, forums, and public discussion, and the sources they rely on most often become the backbone of their answers. Building strong citation architecture means ensuring that accurate, credible, high authority sources are the ones most likely to shape the way AI tools summarize and recommend a brand.
What Is Generative Engine Optimization?
Generative engine optimization (GEO) is the practice of improving the chances that AI systems use and cite your brand or content when generating answers. While traditional SEO is centered on ranking pages in search results, GEO focuses on how LLMs retrieve, interpret, and combine information when responding to a question. The objective is to strengthen the content and sources AI systems rely on, so your brand is treated as a trusted reference in AI responses.
What Is AI Share of Voice?
AI share of voice tracks how often a brand appears in AI-generated answers compared with competitors in the same category. It reflects visibility across AI platforms such as ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, and Perplexity. Monitoring AI share of voice helps organizations see whether AI systems consistently include and recommend their brand for key queries or whether competitor brands are showing up more often.
