Job Posting Sites in AI Search: The Biggest AI Visibility Problems and How We'd Fix Them

Mark HuntleyBy Mark HuntleyFounder and CEO
21 minutes read

Key Takeaways

  • Indeed and LinkedIn were mentioned in every included answer and received the most first-place placements, making them the default options in this peer set.
  • ZipRecruiter and Glassdoor were frequently recommended, but their top-three and first-place placement rates were lower than the leaders.
  • Dice, Wellfound, Snagajob, Monster, CareerBuilder, and SimplyHired were usually named only when questions narrowed, so the main issue is positioning rather than basic visibility.
  • Several companies had conflicting AI claims around pricing, free allowances, response rates, or ownership, so the first step is to verify facts before requesting page or publisher changes.

Companies covered: Dice, Indeed, Monster, LinkedIn, Snagajob, Glassdoor, Wellfound, SimplyHired, ZipRecruiter, CareerBuilder

Answer Capsule

The November 2026 Job Posting Sites benchmark compares 10 companies across 566 AI answers that met its inclusion rules. Indeed recorded 566 mentions and 544 recommendations (96.11% of the answers). Being mentioned means appearing in an answer; being recommended means receiving an affirmative endorsement.

We examine each company, compare the available monthly results, and set out a five-step plan for improving the information AI systems can draw on. The work starts with measuring visibility and checking conflicting claims, then moves to company pages, relevant publishers and buyer questions. The cited pages need review before any correction request, and the research does not establish what caused recommendation differences or promise future gains.

The peer set splits into a top tier that AI answers treat as default answers and a long tail that appears only when a question narrows. Indeed and LinkedIn are named in every included answer, while ZipRecruiter and Glassdoor sit just behind them. The gap that matters for clients is not mention but endorsement: several mid-tier sites are recommended far more often than they are placed near the top.

That pattern suggests the competitive problem for most of this peer set is position and framing, not basic visibility. A site can be named and praised yet rarely lead an answer. The practical implication is that content and source work should aim at how a site is described and ranked, not only at whether it appears.

Dice, Wellfound, Snagajob and SimplyHired show strong recommendation reach against almost no top placements. Monster, CareerBuilder and Glassdoor show the same shape at lower volume. These are the accounts where a focused review of owned pages and cited publishers is most likely to change how answers frame the site.

The monthly samples are not like-for-like: each month drew a different set of answers, so a higher or lower count does not by itself show a change in standing. Read the movement as a record of what each sample contained, not as proof that any site gained or lost ground.

Within that limit, most companies were named and recommended more often in the latest sample than in the summer months. CareerBuilder and SimplyHired show the clearest upward movement in recorded counts, while Dice and Wellfound recovered after a softer autumn. The comparability caveat applies to all of these.

Dice is recommended in most answers that name it, yet it almost never leads a list. That is a positioning problem rather than a visibility problem: the site is treated as a credible option but rarely the first one. Proposed work is a page brief for the owned site and a fact-check of the cited third-party review, conditional on verifying current details before any edit.

Indeed is effectively a default answer, named and recommended almost everywhere, with a large share of first-place placements. Its exposure is factual rather than positional: recorded answers disagree about the free posting allowance. CareerBuilder has grown its recorded presence and is recommended in most answers that name it, though it rarely reaches the top three. Recorded answers disagree about merger timing and ownership, which are exactly the facts a buyer might repeat. Proposed work is a fact check of those claims against current primary sources, then a page brief for the owned site.

The CiteWorks five-step improvement plan

Step 1. Establish the baseline

Questions This Section Answers

  • What should the agency deliver when it works to establish the baseline for Job Posting Sites?

Build a scorecard that records, for each company, its mentions, recommendations, top placements and first-place placements as separate measures, with the sample month attached. Note the answer count and services covered for each month so future comparisons carry the same caveat. Assign an owner and a review status to every record so the baseline can be audited later.

Step 2. Verify disputed facts

Questions This Section Answers

  • What should the agency deliver when it works to verify disputed facts for Job Posting Sites?

AI answers contained 11 conflicting claims across 5 companies. Another 0 possible conflicts were excluded because their company matches were uncertain. The conflicting claims need fact-checking before any corrections are proposed.

Work through the recorded conflicts company by company, starting with the one rated high priority and then the medium ones. For each, confirm the entity, the date and the primary source before deciding whether a correction is warranted. Keep uncertain company matches out of the queue, and record no-change decisions as clearly as confirmed ones.

Step 3. Review owned pages

Questions This Section Answers

  • What should the agency deliver when it works to review owned pages for Job Posting Sites?

Turn the supplied owned-page candidates into briefs that state what each page should make unambiguous for a buyer: pricing, free allowances, response and interview rates where relevant. Verify current page contents and company facts before proposing edits. Each brief should name the evidence required and the owner who signs off.

Step 4. Review third-party sources

Questions This Section Answers

  • What should the agency deliver when it works to review third-party sources for Job Posting Sites?

Prepare source-review packages for the cited publishers, prioritising those that appear across several companies. Confirm what each page currently says before drafting any request, and treat citation as a reason to look rather than proof of influence. Log requests and responses separately from confirmed edits.

Step 5. Address buyer questions and measure again

Questions This Section Answers

  • What should the agency deliver when it works to address buyer questions and measure again for Job Posting Sites?

Draft buyer-question content from the questions actually observed, covering the comparisons and pricing points where answers diverge. Then run a fresh scorecard on a new sample and report delivered work separately from answer outcomes, with the comparability limit stated alongside any movement.

These pages are candidates for review, not confirmed errors. Citation appearances are counted across the captured answers and are not added again for each company.

The publisher list mixes broad roundups, video and app listings, and single-company pages. The roundups covering several companies are the natural first reviews because one verified page can affect how several sites are described. The video and social sources are worth checking for accuracy but are harder to amend.

Citation counts show how often a page appeared in captured answers, not that it shaped them. Before any request, confirm what the page currently says and whether the disputed claim originates there. Prioritise pages where a verified inaccuracy is found, and leave the rest as monitoring targets.

What we'd prioritize first

Period

Deliverable

Completion criterion

Days 1–30

Baseline scorecard, scoped fact-review register and page/source shortlist

Each record has an owner, evidence requirement and review status

Days 31–60

Approved page briefs and justified publisher requests

Separate confirmed edits, no-change decisions, requests and responses

Days 61–90

Buyer-content briefs and a fresh scorecard

Record work completed separately from measured answer outcomes and comparability limits

Start with the fact dependencies, because several companies have recorded conflicts touching pricing, free allowances and ownership that a buyer could repeat. ZipRecruiter's high-priority conflict and the pricing disagreements around Indeed and LinkedIn come first, with CareerBuilder's merger facts close behind.

In parallel, brief the owned pages for the companies with strong recommendation reach but weak placement, since that is where framing work has the clearest target. Publisher reviews follow only where verification finds a genuine inaccuracy. A fresh scorecard closes the period, reported separately from the work delivered.

Methodology and conclusion

Questions This Section Answers

  • What do the Job Posting Sites sample and source-review limits allow us to conclude?

This report covers 2026-11. The exact dates when the original AI answers were collected have not been verified. The visibility rates use 566 answers that met the benchmark's inclusion rules. A company is recommended only when the answer both endorses it and uses positive wording. Top 3 and first-place counts are part of those recommendations, not extra recommendations.

An answer can mention or recommend several companies, so company counts cannot be added to find the number of distinct answers. The net sentiment score is positive minus negative mentions, divided by all company mentions; it describes answer wording, not customer satisfaction.

The wider citation analysis covers 800 captured answers and 5122 appearances of cited URLs. Citation appearances across all captured answers differ from the number of benchmark answers citing a page and the number that also recommend a company. The current contents of cited pages and disputed company claims still need independent verification.

The answer samples differ between months. These comparisons show how the recorded results changed; they do not establish why they changed.

These results describe how AI answers worded their coverage in the selected samples, not customer satisfaction or market share. A recommendation requires both an endorsement and positive wording, and top placements sit inside recommendations rather than adding to them. Because answers can name several companies, counts cannot be summed into a total number of answers.

The months were sampled separately, so movement between them shows what changed in the record, not why. Proposed next steps are a baseline scorecard, verified fact checks before any correction, page and publisher briefs, buyer-question content, and a fresh sample reported alongside the work completed.

Understanding AI search visibility.

AI search experiences create answers by pulling information from many places online and summarizing it into a single response.

What Is AI Citation Intelligence?
AI citation intelligence is the process of measuring where AI platforms source their information and how frequently a brand is mentioned or referenced in AI-generated responses. Because LLMs synthesize across multiple sources, the sites and brands that appear repeatedly tend to influence how a topic or company is framed. This practice focuses on identifying which sources shape AI outputs and tracking brand visibility across different AI systems.
What Is Citation Architecture?
Citation architecture describes the set of sources that consistently inform how AI systems talk about a brand, product, or topic. LLMs draw from websites, articles, forums, and public discussion, and the sources they rely on most often become the backbone of their answers. Building strong citation architecture means ensuring that accurate, credible, high authority sources are the ones most likely to shape the way AI tools summarize and recommend a brand.
What Is Generative Engine Optimization?
Generative engine optimization (GEO) is the practice of improving the chances that AI systems use and cite your brand or content when generating answers. While traditional SEO is centered on ranking pages in search results, GEO focuses on how LLMs retrieve, interpret, and combine information when responding to a question. The objective is to strengthen the content and sources AI systems rely on, so your brand is treated as a trusted reference in AI responses.
What Is AI Share of Voice?
AI share of voice tracks how often a brand appears in AI-generated answers compared with competitors in the same category. It reflects visibility across AI platforms such as ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, and Perplexity. Monitoring AI share of voice helps organizations see whether AI systems consistently include and recommend their brand for key queries or whether competitor brands are showing up more often.
