Online Betting Sites in AI Search: The Biggest AI Visibility Problems and How We'd Fix Them

Mark HuntleyBy Mark HuntleyFounder and CEO

Key Takeaways

  • DraftKings and FanDuel lead the set on mentions, recommendations and first-place placements, while BetMGM sits just behind them.
  • Several brands are widely mentioned but rarely endorsed, showing a gap between being named in answers and being recommended.
  • ESPN Bet and Bally Bet have limited recommendation rates and almost no top-three placements, pointing to weaker positioning.
  • The review plan starts with a baseline scorecard, then verifies conflicting claims, reviews owned pages and third-party sources, and re-measures later.

Companies covered: BetMGM, bet365, FanDuel, ESPN Bet, Bally Bet, BetRivers, DraftKings, Hard Rock Bet, Fanatics Sportsbook

Answer Capsule

The November 2026 Online Betting Sites benchmark compares 9 companies across 274 AI answers that met its inclusion rules. DraftKings recorded 271 mentions and 144 recommendations (52.55% of the answers). Being mentioned means appearing in an answer; being recommended means receiving an affirmative endorsement.

We examine each company, compare the available monthly results, and set out a five-step plan for improving the information AI systems can draw on. The work starts with measuring visibility and checking conflicting claims, then moves to company pages, relevant publishers and buyer questions. The cited pages need review before any correction request, and the research does not establish what caused recommendation differences or promise future gains.

The peer set splits into a clear top tier and a long middle. DraftKings and FanDuel appear in nearly every answer and earn affirmative recommendations in roughly half, while BetMGM sits just behind them on both measures. Below that line, bet365 and Fanatics Sportsbook keep broad visibility but receive far fewer endorsements.

The sharper pattern is the gap between being named and being endorsed. Several operators appear in most answers yet rarely earn positive recommendation wording, and their top-three and first-place placements are thin or absent. For those brands, the practical question is not whether AI systems know them, but whether answers give a reason to choose them.

ESPN Bet and Bally Bet sit at the other end, mentioned often enough to be part of the conversation but with scarce endorsements and effectively no placements, which points to a positioning question worth investigating. Because each answer can name several companies, these figures describe how often each brand appears and is endorsed, not how the market divides. The agency would treat the scorecard as a baseline, then test the endorsement gap against verified facts and current page content before proposing any changes.

Across the selected monthly samples, most operators show lower recommendation counts in November than in October, and mention counts mostly moved the same way. The samples differ in size and composition between months, so these are separate snapshots rather than a like-for-like trend.

A few brands moved against that direction. ESPN Bet and Bally Bet recorded more mentions in November while their recommendation counts fell. The observed movement is worth noting, but the data cannot explain why counts or rates changed.

The usable history is therefore a set of comparable-in-structure snapshots, not a performance series. Future months should be recorded with the same inclusion rules so the agency can distinguish real movement from sample differences.

BetMGM is named in almost every answer and recommended in about half, which puts it close to the two leaders on reach. Its first-place placements are far thinner than its overall recommendation count, so the brand is often endorsed without being named the single best option.

A high-priority conflict concerns White Sox futures odds, with two different figures quoted in AI answers. We would verify the current line against the operator's own page before treating either figure as wrong, since dates may explain the difference.

bet365 appears in most answers and is recommended in a substantial share, so its reach is not the issue. What stands out is placement: top-three appearances are limited and first-place recommendations are absent, meaning answers rarely position it at the front.

No conflicting claims were recorded, so the work here is a page review rather than a correction. We would brief the owned page and the app-store listing against verified product facts, then check whether the content gives answers a clear reason to rank the brand higher.

FanDuel

Questions This Section Answers

  • What measured visibility pattern and review priority does FanDuel have in Online Betting Sites?

FanDuel leads the peer set on mentions and recommendations and holds a strong share of first-place placements, so its current position is the strongest in the group. That reach is the starting point, not a conclusion about why answers favor it.

Several conflicting claims need checking, including a disputed top-app ranking and Stanley Cup futures figures. We would verify each against primary sources before any correction, and brief the owned state page so its facts are easy to confirm.

ESPN Bet is mentioned in roughly three answers in ten but is rarely recommended, and it holds no top-three or first-place placements. The gap between appearing and being endorsed is the central finding for this brand.

Conflicts about whether the brand is still active, and about its relationship to theScore Bet, are high priority because they touch basic identity. We would verify current status with primary sources before any correction, then brief content that answers the obvious buyer question directly.

Bally Bet is named in a majority of answers but recommended in only a small fraction, and it holds no top-three or first-place placements. Most mentions are neutral in wording, which suggests answers include the brand without arguing for it.

No conflicting claims were recorded, so this is a positioning review rather than a fact repair. We would examine the owned sportsbook page and the state listing against verified details, then brief content that gives answers a concrete reason to recommend the brand.

BetRivers appears in most answers and is recommended in a meaningful minority, with almost no top-three or first-place placements. Reach is solid; the shortfall is in affirmative endorsement and front-of-list positioning.

DraftKings sits at the top of the peer set on mentions and recommendations, with a strong share of first-place placements. Its current reach is the benchmark the other brands are measured against, not evidence of why answers favor it.

Selected owned-page review candidate: https://fanaticsinc.com/our-businesses.

Selected third-party review candidate: https://sports.yahoo.com/betting/sportsbooks/article/apps-sites-220000188.html.

Fanatics Sportsbook has broad reach, appearing in most answers and recommended in about a third, but top-three and first-place placements are rare. The brand is part of the conversation without often being the answer's leading pick.

Two conflicts need checking: app performance descriptions and the Lids ownership relationship. We would verify both against primary sources before any correction, and brief the corporate businesses page so ownership facts are unambiguous.

The CiteWorks five-step improvement plan

Step 1. Establish the baseline

Questions This Section Answers

  • What should the agency deliver when it works to establish the baseline for Online Betting Sites?

We would build a cohort scorecard that records each brand's mentions, recommendations and placements under one consistent set of rules, with the November figures as the opening baseline. Every entry gets an owner and a note on how it was measured.

The scorecard should also document sample size and service coverage for each month, so later comparisons are read as separate snapshots rather than a continuous trend.

Step 2. Verify disputed facts

Questions This Section Answers

  • What should the agency deliver when it works to verify disputed facts for Online Betting Sites?

AI answers contained 26 conflicting claims across 6 companies. Another 0 possible conflicts were excluded because their company matches were uncertain. The conflicting claims need fact-checking before any corrections are proposed.

The fact-review register starts with the recorded conflicts, ordered by severity, and each item is checked against a current primary source before anything is proposed. High-priority items such as brand status and licensing claims come first.

Where a company match is uncertain, the item stays outside the correction queue. Confirmed edits, no-change decisions and open questions are recorded separately so the client can see what was actually resolved.

Step 3. Review owned pages

Questions This Section Answers

  • What should the agency deliver when it works to review owned pages for Online Betting Sites?

Each supplied owned-page candidate receives a brief covering the facts it should state, the questions it should answer and the evidence needed before any edit. Briefs are proposals, not findings about what the page currently says.

No page is changed until its claims are verified against current primary sources. Where verification is inconclusive, the brief records the open question rather than a recommended edit.

Step 4. Review third-party sources

Questions This Section Answers

  • What should the agency deliver when it works to review third-party sources for Online Betting Sites?

For the third-party pages, we would prepare a review package that states what the page covers, what the client believes should change and the evidence supporting that view. Requests go out only after the page's current contents are checked.

A citation in an AI answer does not show that the page influenced the answer, so requests are framed around accuracy rather than assumed influence. Responses and non-responses are logged separately.

Step 5. Address buyer questions and measure again

Questions This Section Answers

  • What should the agency deliver when it works to address buyer questions and measure again for Online Betting Sites?

The observed buyer questions become content briefs that answer them directly, using verified facts and clear comparisons. These briefs are proposed work, not claims that any page is missing or that demand exists.

After delivery, we measure again with the same rules and report completed work separately from answer outcomes. Any change in the scorecard is described as observed movement, not as proof that the work caused it.

These pages are candidates for review, not confirmed errors. Citation appearances are counted across the captured answers and are not added again for each company.

The publisher list mixes official state listings, sports media apps roundups and financial pages. Priority should follow two tests: whether the page covers a brand with a live fact question, and whether its content can be verified now.

The state gaming listing and the major sports media roundups reach several brands at once, so they are efficient places to start. Financial pages matter mainly for the disputed analyst-target claims and should be checked against current filings.

Citation appearances show that a page was referenced, not that it shaped an answer. Each page is reviewed for accuracy first, and any request is made only after its current contents are confirmed.

What we'd prioritize first

Period

Deliverable

Completion criterion

Days 1–30

Baseline scorecard, scoped fact-review register and page/source shortlist

Each record has an owner, evidence requirement and review status

Days 31–60

Approved page briefs and justified publisher requests

Separate confirmed edits, no-change decisions, requests and responses

Days 61–90

Buyer-content briefs and a fresh scorecard

Record work completed separately from measured answer outcomes and comparability limits

The first priority is the recommendation gap for brands that are widely mentioned but seldom endorsed. That pattern affects several operators and is the clearest shared opportunity in the data.

Second is the fact-review queue, starting with the high-priority conflicts around brand status and licensing, because those touch basic identity and are cheapest to resolve. Third is the page and source review, which turns verified facts into briefs the client can act on.

We would run these in parallel over the first two months, then add buyer-question content and a fresh scorecard. Each stage records completed work separately from measured answer outcomes, with no promise of a specific gain.

Methodology and conclusion

Questions This Section Answers

  • What do the Online Betting Sites sample and source-review limits allow us to conclude?

This report covers 2026-11. The exact dates when the original AI answers were collected have not been verified. The visibility rates use 274 answers that met the benchmark's inclusion rules. A company is recommended only when the answer both endorses it and uses positive wording. Top 3 and first-place counts are part of those recommendations, not extra recommendations.

An answer can mention or recommend several companies, so company counts cannot be added to find the number of distinct answers. The net sentiment score is positive minus negative mentions, divided by all company mentions; it describes answer wording, not customer satisfaction.

The wider citation analysis covers 800 captured answers and 4113 appearances of cited URLs. Citation appearances across all captured answers differ from the number of benchmark answers citing a page and the number that also recommend a company. The current contents of cited pages and disputed company claims still need independent verification.

The answer samples differ between months. These comparisons show how the recorded results changed; they do not establish why they changed.

This report describes one month of AI answers under a fixed set of inclusion rules. The exact collection dates are unverified, and the monthly samples differ in size and composition, so comparisons show recorded movement rather than cause.

Recommendations require both an endorsement and positive wording, and placements sit inside recommendations rather than adding to them. Sentiment describes answer wording, not customer satisfaction, and citation appearances do not establish influence.

The proposed work is a baseline scorecard, a verified fact-review register, page and source briefs, buyer-question content and a later re-measurement. Current page contents and disputed claims still need independent verification before any correction is proposed.

Understanding AI search visibility.

AI search experiences create answers by pulling information from many places online and summarizing it into a single response.

What Is AI Citation Intelligence?
AI citation intelligence is the process of measuring where AI platforms source their information and how frequently a brand is mentioned or referenced in AI-generated responses. Because LLMs synthesize across multiple sources, the sites and brands that appear repeatedly tend to influence how a topic or company is framed. This practice focuses on identifying which sources shape AI outputs and tracking brand visibility across different AI systems.
What Is Citation Architecture?
Citation architecture describes the set of sources that consistently inform how AI systems talk about a brand, product, or topic. LLMs draw from websites, articles, forums, and public discussion, and the sources they rely on most often become the backbone of their answers. Building strong citation architecture means ensuring that accurate, credible, high authority sources are the ones most likely to shape the way AI tools summarize and recommend a brand.
What Is Generative Engine Optimization?
Generative engine optimization (GEO) is the practice of improving the chances that AI systems use and cite your brand or content when generating answers. While traditional SEO is centered on ranking pages in search results, GEO focuses on how LLMs retrieve, interpret, and combine information when responding to a question. The objective is to strengthen the content and sources AI systems rely on, so your brand is treated as a trusted reference in AI responses.
What Is AI Share of Voice?
AI share of voice tracks how often a brand appears in AI-generated answers compared with competitors in the same category. It reflects visibility across AI platforms such as ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, and Perplexity. Monitoring AI share of voice helps organizations see whether AI systems consistently include and recommend their brand for key queries or whether competitor brands are showing up more often.
